On Landfill Sitings MU A Attempts To Assuage Townships UPPER TWP — Cap? May County Municipal Utilities Authority thairmain John Vinci has informed Upper Township officials the authority isn’t considering environmentally sensitive" areas for the site of the county s m-wlandfill . .. .. ..... Responding to a resolution presented to the MUA last Wednesday by the Upper Township Committee Vmdsaid. "I want tp put to rest the concerns of the elected officials of Upper Township and many other cituens. We are not considering any sites that would be in environmentally sensitive areas " UPPER TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE voiced its op^ position to any MUA site that would "jeopardize the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of the area or would threaten the community’s fresh water supply.' According to Mr Vinci, the MUA is aware of all environmental considerations and does have under review a site on the Woodbine-Upper Township border "It is not in a critical area It is in an area where no residents will be affected by traffic or trash I believe all those concerned will be satisfied." Vinci remarked MIDDLE TWP Officials here received assurances Wednesday from the chairman of the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority that he wouldn’t support the siting of a new landfill in their municipality and that alternatives were being suggested for the transfei' station location to replace the Rio Grande site that have been recommended „ .. MUA chairman John Vinci told Middle Township Committeeperson Pat Peterson. "I’ll resign from-this authority before I agree to locate the landfill in Middle Township" i , t.. . , „ I. /AFTER RECEIVING A PETITION from Michael Voll protesting the siting of the proposed solid waste transfer station in the Rio Grande area Mr Vinci said, "We are already looking into alternative sites. I suggested one tonight to the consulting engineers for their consideration. I think everybody will be pleased if its found to be ‘feasible" . The MUA chairman also suggested to the township officials that they appear at the public hearing in late May to again voice their opinions on the solid waste facilities’ sites "Your input is very valuable." Vinci said. “1 commend you for presenting it this evening." Workshops Scheduled

POMONA - The Stockton Center for Environmental Research will sponsor a series of three workshops for homeowners on "wells," "stoves and solar energy." and "Insulation and wind energy.” beginning May 2. The workshops are designed to help local .homeowners understand their water source and discover how they can save energy and money in'their homes The workshops will be held from 1 p m to 4 p m Saturday afternoons THE WORKSHOP on wells will be held Saturday. May 2 Three topics will be covered Well water testing and safety.

The second workshop on Saturday, May 9. will deal with stoves and solar energy The speakers will include Charlie Marsh, a physicist, and Hal Taylor and Lynn Stiles of the Stockton College science faculty. THE WORKSHOP Saturday. May 16. will deal with home insulation and wind energy. Chuck Nickles and Ambrose O'Donnell from Atlantic Electric will explain how to save energy.
