Silk Purse From Sow’s Ear
by Patricia 0. Hall WILDWOOD - If you spent a few days having a high old time at the Wildwood Inn last year and are considering going back this season to renew old acquaintances, swill your beer and act uncouth Don’t waste a dime on a telephone call for reservations. You will be answered with a polite but firm receptionist who will insist that the Wildwood Inn no longer exists. And of course she will be telling the truth; because the Wildwood Inn, alias Ramada Inn, has been amazingly transformed from the notorious sows ear, which has so long blighted the down town section of Wildwood, into the proverbial 1 silk purse. THAT SAME recep-
tionist will not even inform you that the Wildwood Inn is now the Beach Terrce because if you stayed there last year the new owners figure you and your gang aren’t their style and they would prefer that you take your business elsewhere,
think you!
»new owners are Mike Pat DiAntonio, Will
Mor& Jack Morey, jyill More, Jr., and Barry Gehr-
Mng.
i The DiAntonio brothers /irst approached the bank about buying the building but because of their youthfulhess — they are in their early 30’s — the loan was refused. When they combined forces with the Moreys and Barry Gehring, it seems they had gotten the proper credentials to convince the bank that

they could take the building from near ruin and make a go of it. To demonstrate just how far this team has gone to bring new life to the Beach Terrace, Mike and Pat recently conducted a guided tour that included the completely renovated rooms, the Rush Rudder Restaurant, the Bronco Bull Saloon, the pool area, and the banquet facilities. IN TRUTH what was actually purchased was little more than a shell of a building which has been filled ih with such skill that all seems brand new. With unabashed and plainly deserved pride Mike and Pat pointed out all the authentic nautical trappings in their n£w restaurant. There are brass lights which actually lit the way for some sailor on a ship on the high seas. And the tables are made with boards also rescued from some former water transport. The decor might best be discribed as rustic but refined; a delightful place to spend an intimate evening or equaHy appeal-ing-as a special place to go
with the family. From the old time Hunter fans to the crab boxes still covered with barnacles, authenticity seems to be the watch word. MOVING FROM the Rusty Rudder to the Bronco Bull Saloon is like going' from the sea coast to the ) West where “never is heard a discouraging word” and cowboys ride bucking horses and bulls all day. In addition to the usual drinks, the-. Bronco Bull as you may have guessed, has one of those mechanical marvel* that simulates the contortions of a bull trying to rid himself of a hapless rider. With such enthusiastic tour leaders as Mike and Pat it is easy to get caught up in the excitement of this new venture, and one wishes them rafts of guest this summer. WELL THERE you have it. a sows ear magically transformed into our aforementioned silk purse by nothing more than a lot of imagination, a whole passel of money and more work than we can keep track of. When the grand opening is held on May 8, Wildwood will be saying goodbye to an old eyesore and welcoming a fresh new face to the down town area.
