The new Rolling Slows 1 album is a compilation of their strongest songs from the 70’s, plus a few previously 'unreleased tracks to entice those who collect all the Stones’ albums. The end result is a decent, listenable collection, but one that pales when compared to their work in the 60’s. Musically, The Rolling Stones are still a tight, aggressive outfit, but their songwriting now lacks launch and conviction. Instead of the angry tales in "Satisfaction” or "Get Off My-Cloud," the immbers now seem to be written by using "hit formulas.” Still, The rolling Stones continue to be one of the most important bands around, and even when they don’t live up to their own standards, they’re usually much better off than the competition. LINX IS ONE of the hottest British soul bands around, and after three top ten hits, they’ve decided to try add crack the American charts. Their debut album "Intuition”

(Chrysalis) is a fine start, as the group displays a knack for writing gripping tunes and singing them in smooth, emotional voices. UnlikAfmany current soul bands, Linx have substance, and it would be nice to see them getting some radio support. • MIDNIGHT FLYER is a hard driving British rock band. Their debut tor Swan Song Records has them coming off as a Bad Company with a female vocalist. A few of the songs are weak, but the gritty musicianship and singing consistently save this record. Midnight Flyer sounds as if they’ll win over their following by constant touring, instead of a hit single. There’s potential with this band. ^ NINE BELOW ZERO’S "Don’t Point Your Finger” (A&M) is good solid British blues in the tradition of Savoy Brown or early Fleetwood Mac. The performances are spirited and the songs first-rate. The only thing I would question about the style of music Nine Below Zero plays is if anyone in America is interested in a British blues band. It’s been a long time since Savoy Brown headlined the Spectra, or were booked over Pink Floyd. Nine Below Zero have a lot of talent and one can only wish them the best of luck. Seek Outdoor Dining Area SEA ISLE CITY - Application for a Dept, of the Army permit to reconstruct a bulkhead and walkway and construct a deck in a lagoon off Ludlam Thorofare at 42nd PI. here has been made by Gloria Giampietro of Central Ave. The purpose of the project is to provide an outdoor dining area for the existing restaurant.
