TOM PRTTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS’ ‘Hard Ptomisw" (Backstreet) was well worth the long wait. Petty isn’t breaking any new ground with this release, y . as he’s still obviously influenced by early Rolling Stone*. 60's soul music, and The Byrd*. However, his songwriting and singing continue to in prove ^th each record. Tom Petty is one of the leadil forces in pop music today, and it’s nice to see a man with so much talent be recognized by record buyers. fHE UNITS are a San Frahcisco band that base their sound on synthesizers. However, unlike many others, the Units are listenable as they have clear, strong melodies. * ‘ Digital Stimulation” (415 Recon^ P.O. Box 14563, San Francisco, CA. 94114) is a good Mart for this three-, piece band. If they could sharpen their vocals a bit, The vUnits would attract a lot of attention. PETER NOONE will always be remembered for .his days of a superstar as Herman of Herman's Hermits, but the guy isn’t down and out. He’s no# fronting the excellent pop-rock band The Tremblers. ’Twice N|ghtly’’ (Epic) came out last Fall, but until its follow-up Is issued it’s not too late to review it. Infectious songs sung with conviction, prove Peter tyoone is still a capable singer. Most of these tracks deserved to be played on the radio and. hopefully, his next album will find him on the charts where he deserves to be JIM VALLEY uSfcd to play rhythm guitar for Paul Revere and The Raiders, but today he's a singersongwriter with a strong country influence. "Dance Inside Your Heart" (First American) is a pleasant collection of tunes, showcasing strong material and a. thoroughly enjoyable voice. This should surprise a l^of people. AFTER THEIR ZANY PERFORMANCE on Saturday Night Live, there’s been a buzz in the industry over Kid Creole & The Coconuts. The product of-producer August Darnell's creative mind, they blend a variety of styles and a visual performance few could hope to match. A second album will be out later this month, but their first merits listening to. Rock, disco, reggae, soul, and african rhythms blend together to create a sound that's perfect for dancing as well as listening. Superstars in New York and London, the next album should bring their joyous sounds worldwide. Ronald Will Clown It Up
