CAPE MAY - The 1961 Men's Softball League kicked off the season with a flurry of action last week. The league has once again improved, With as many as 10 of the 15 teams capable of challenging defending champion Kramer

Beverage.

County softball teams have gone beyond the county to flex their muscles, competing in tournaments throughout New Jersey and as far away as Pennsylvania and Virginia, and gaining respectability wherever they have

played.

THE MOST successful, tournament achievers in recent years have been Kramer Beverage, winners of the i960 Somerville and Scotty Ireland Tournaments; Kona Sports, Rick’s of Rio Grande, Laws Printers, L & R, Burkes and Grandes Bar. By the looks of this year’s overall league balance, the regular season and championship playoffs will prove to be a legitimate dogfight down to the wira. IN EARLY SEASON action Captain Sig’s Seafood hooked into first-year team Richardsons Air Systems for a 23-8 verdict Winning pitcher Jim Conrey and Ken Raker paced Sig’s with 4-for-4 hitting performances. In their win over L & R Rick Burke and Herb Hudson led Ricks with 3 hits

each. Bob Hoskins stroked four consecutive hits and Bob Matthews and Gary Montgomery laced three safeties during Rick’s scal-

ing of Sigs.
