SWAINTON A public hearing on proponed siles lor the new interim landfill has been scheduled lor Thursday, June 25. by the Cape May County Municipal Utilllles Authority G«arge Marinakis, executive director. Mid no location had yet been chosen for the solid waste site selection hearing but that the documentation would be finalired next week and would go on display in several public places including selected libraries and the MUA office In other solid waste matters Marinakis reported the authority had returned executed contracts • to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for *40,000 in grants that have been approved for the landfill site selection study

and development of a source separation program to recycle solid waste materials. THECMCMUA DECIDED to accelerate its design efforts on the sludge composting facilities to be constructed in the Seven Mile Beach/Middle Region. "The NJDEP has urged us to submit an application for funding ^his project before June 30," Marinakis said. "In order to achieve that timetable, we must drastically condense the design period,” the executive director stated. The consulting engineers, Pandullo Quirk Associates, have put a 20-person staff on 10-hour days and are working six days per week to complete the task. The total design cost for the composting facilities is *266,000. "THAT FIGURE WILL be well spent when you consider the availability of up to *5 million in grants " MUA chairman John Vinci remarked. "For once the agencies are on our side, urging us to hurry." The authority also decided to delete temporarily, in the interest of expediting grant funding, the ocean outfall portion of the facilities planning program in the Wildwood/Lower region. "This is not a dssirable way to go,” Marinakis explained, "but when you have one segment ready for submission and

another not ready, to delay the entire project would not be in the best interests of the

region.”

CMCMUA expects to issue a notice by

June 15 for the public hearings on the sewerable area mapping programs for the Seven Mile Beach/Middle Township and the Wildwood/Lower service regions.
