Bands Returning To Pier
OCEAN CITY - Big bands return to the city for the season May 30 when the William Sackett Society * Orchestra entertains at the Music Pier, to benefit the Cape May County Unit of the Cancer Society. The 15-piece orchestra featuring the nation’s youngest big band leader ‘ set an attendance record at the Pier here in February, attracting over 600 dancers to the 52-year-old "music hall over the sea." The performance is set from 9 p.m. Ml midnight, May 30 at the Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. ■ SACKETT WILL play at the Music Pier every Thursday in July and. August and is expected to bring numerous guest performers to the City. The big band performance^ will be complemented by the Ocean City "Pops" Orchestra, which will offer semi-classical selections Sunday through Wednesday at the Pier under the direction of Frank Ruggieri. Another entertainment feature of the 1961 season will be the tplecasting of the Ed Hurst "Dance Land U.S.A.” show from the
Pier. Numerous guest performers including Lou .Rawls and Bobby Rydell will appear in Ocean City for this show. On June 16. Cart Waxman will bring his big hand to the Pier for a special concert in memory of the late John Warrington, former Ocean City "Pops" conductor and one of the leading big band arrangers in the country. This concert is set for 8 p.m. and is free courtesy of the Musicians Trust Fund Locals 661 and 708. Atlantic City. Shell Talk ( MIDDLE TWP. - Dorothy Raeihle of West Babylon. N.Y. will speak on "Seashells and Seashores," 8 p.m. June 1 at the June 1 meeting of the Jersey Cape Shell Club, at the .Wetlands Institute, on Stone Harbor Blvd., Stone Harbor. Mrs. Raeihle is past president of the New York Shell Club and present director of the Long Island Shell Club. Her husband is a photographer and his photographs illustrate her talk.
