New Art School To Premiere

More than 300 art connoisagurs were on hand at th^wetlands Institute May 23 to officially mark the opening of the Stone Harbor School of Art. Among those attending the gala event were several of the professional artists who will teach classes at the school when it begins its first season in July. Instructors present were New York photographer Doug Long, abstract watercolorist Todd Stone and children’s art teacher Janet Strauss. UNDER THE direction of local Sandpiper Art

Galerie director Connie Sands and New York corporate art consultant Jo Colino, the new professional art school comes to the Jersey Cape geared toward expanding the cultural and creative environment of the South Jersey area. Conducted under the guidance of skilled professionals in an exceptionally artistic setting, both children and adults will have the unique opportunity to share fully in the work and lifestyles of accomplished artists, according to the directors.

CLASES WILL be at the old Stohe Harbor Coast Guard Station, and each five-day session will last from 9:30 a m. to 3:30 p.m. An orientation program will be held on the Sunday evening preceeding each

new course.

The first session, which begins July 19. %ill deal with watercolor. This course will be taught by Christopher Schink of Palos Altos, Calif. Doug Long follows on August 2 with his presentation on

photography.

A chart of harvest dates for more than 30 commodities is also included as well' as advice on how to arrange a visit. April resignation of Ann Goldsmith. Appointed May 6, the newcomer's term runs thru the end of 1983. ONE ADDITIONAL seat is still vacant on the board resulting from the May 21st resignation of board member Robert Lund. Mr. Lund told his fellow board members in a letter that he found it necessary to resign because of business oblications in Philadelphia. He joined the board as alternate 4n January 1980 and becajhe a regular member one year later. The local board's makeup consists of nine regular and two alternate members. Members are appointed by the mayor for three year terms.

Children's classes will be from 9 a m to 2 p.m. during the weeks of July 19 and August 2. These classes, taught by Janet Strauss, will explore a variety of materials and techniques and will encourage the child to explore and develop according to his own needs and interests within given lessons. CAFRA Hearing On MIA Work SEA ISLE CITY - The state will conduct a permit hearing on the regional sewage system proposed for the Seven Mile Beach/Middle Region, 11 a m. June 18 in the Public Safety Building (second

floor) here.

As .proposed by the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority, the regional system will provide sanitary sewerage to residents of this city, Avalon, Stone Harbor, and Middle Township. The Coastal Area Facility Review Act hearing will be conducted by the state ( Div. of Coastal Resources.
