■ 21 Split Vote for

Girls’Jackets

, By Bob Sillies What’s fit for the goose is fit for the gander. That’s the attitude a majority of the Lower Cape May Regional School Baord took last week when it was decided to appropriate more than $200 for the purchase of new jackets for the Teitelman's School's championship girls sftftball team. The request was made by principal Jeanette Babbitt who told board members she would have no credibility before her students if she didn't come before them in their behalf. A PRECEDENT’for buy ing jackets for members of championshipUeams was set earw in tha school year when ivejjtoftd strayed from tnUjjjffal policy and agrecd'j^St jackets fpr the hif^hhwH^ championship football and wrestling teams. The Teitelman soft ball team was the district's

only female championship squad. Superintendent Ephraim Keller recently told the Herald and Lantern that all of the jackets, including the 17 for the girls, have cost more than $3,000 Questions concerning the jacket policy have been raised at several board meeting throughout the year "IN GENERAL. I’m against jackets," board member Ruth Billrndyer said. But since the other (championship) teams have received them, I have to vote Yen " Other members, however, refused to bow to the precedent set by the former board. Claiming that it is the responsibility of the booster clubs rather than the school board to purchase jackets, president Paul Lundholm and members ^Siephen Todd and Arlene/MacDonald all voted no.
