Scholarships, Awards in Excess of $80,000 Received hy Grads

ERMA - - Lower Cape May Regional High School said farewell to its more than 200 graduats last Wednesday with enough pomp and circumstance to

satisfy a king.

"The success of America depends upon the success of individuals,” valedictorian Robert G. Church told fellow classmates, family and friends that crowded onto the athletic field here to participate in the event the Rev. Robert O. Davis described during the invocation as one of the most important days in a

person’s life.

"In the words of Emily Dickinson," he said. "Success is counted sweetest by those that never succeed-

ed."

His words were echoed by Salutatorian Kerry Marie Axelsson who told the audience that the only true success is "to be able to live your life in your own way.” She urged her fellow classmates to pursue their own dreams, no matter how big or small. "Be yourself," she said. S OOL OFFICIALS asized the many ements accomplished by the class, evident in the numerous awards and scholarships received. Board of Education president Paul Lundholm announced that more than $17,000 in local scholarships were presented to graduates along two ROTC scholarships, each valued upwards of $35,000 and at least $30,000 in financial aid for students going to college. The ROTC scholarships were awarded to Kerry Marie Axelsson (Navy) and Robert G. Church (Air Force). •WHATEVER YOU choose to do in these somewhat difficult days, you must excel in your choice,” the board president told the class. He said that 91 of the 230 graduates are going to college while 7 have opted for military ser-

vice.

Superintendent Ephraim Keller also had words of wisdom for the graduates He called on them to be responsible individuals, having concern for others rather than following the "me first" trend so common in today's society. "JUSTICE FOR all is more important than Justice for me," he said. "Freedom for all is more important than freedom for me. Equality for all men is more important than

equality for me."
