ON OUR WAV-to the municipal park dedication aervice in Avalon, we atopped to see Lydia & Ron Borek't new home at 7388 Ocean Dr. We’ve known Lydia since she was an early teenager and babysat for our kids We grew to love her as a captivating youngster, and continue to now that she’s a poised wife and mother of two

energetic and adorable boys, 7-yr-old Brendan and David., 2^ _ Lydia's father, Raymond Carbon! of 20th St. buHt this home for the Borek's as he did their former one. This too is spacious and airy but it has the advantage of a view of the bay in backend the park in front. Lydia loves the park, not Hist because its lovely .to

look at but it’s an ideal place for the boys to play under her supervision. Brendan was proudly dressed in his Galacticas uniform which he wears for soccer practice each Tuesday and Thursday at ( the 8th St. field. THE GALACTICAS belong to the Cape May County Soccer League, as do their arch rivals, the

ed over the ceremony and at its conclusion he said what was in the minds of many: "She would always remain "Avalon’s First Lady." The Mayor made a short speech thanking "all those who helped to bring this about" and Mary Off and our friend of long standing, Alice Marvel, of 261 47th St. spoke briefly too. Marion Armacost lead the national campaign to SAVE THE TURTLES and the memorial plate on the marble drinking fountain is crowned by a crawling turtle. WE STOPPED last week to see Mary & Russell Wheatley on 37th St. but it was Mary's volunteer day at Burdette. Like lots of other couples down here, the Wheatleys wear many hats. Russ has the largest rod and reel repair service in these parts, according to Capt. Joe McTommoney of Rio Grande. Joe is master of the Adventurer, Fishing Fleet, out of Wildwood, and Russ keeps 250 rods in good repair for him alone In addition to his business, Russ works with

weighmaster and Stone Harbor’s Smugglers Cove is an official weighing station as well. WE DIDNT know much about regulations for the Tourney and Russ told us; No registration fee is required and there are no age limitations. In fact, 11- year-old Bob Herb of Malvern Pa. landed the largest to date—a blue, weighed at Harvey’s Port of Call by Bill Lambert Jr. Dave Fellenbaum caught the first blue & and had it weighed at the Sport Fishing Center but it was a 12- pounder so he'll have to try again. Ten species are acceptable plus some blue-water fish, —i.e., marlin, etc. — at the judges discretion. All entries must be officially weighed and recorded to be eligible for a prize. The biggest fish in its own category wins, and, the largest will get the Director’s prize. 50 Certificates of Commendation are being awarded monthly so if you boat a biggie get it weighed!
