OCEAN CITY - The Miss Cape May County Scholarship Pageant is seeking young women between the ages of 16 and 26 interested in being part of the Miss America preliminary program. A new Miss Cape May County will be crowned on Saturday, July 25’ at the Music Pier here. She will win scholarships and other awards worth nearly $1,000 and will represent the county in the Miss New Jersey Pageant the following summer. MISS CAPE MAY County will be selected by a panel of judges using the Miss America system of judging. Her personality, beauty, poise and talent will all be evaluated in making the decision. Four runners-up to the title will also share in an almost equal amount of scholarships and other awards. Craft Lessons LOWER TWP. - Beginning yesterday. Historic Cold Spring Village is offering lessons in candlemaking, printing, woodcarving, basket-making, quilting, weaving, toymaking, dried flower-arranging and pottery. All lessons will be conducted by an experienced craftsperson in the 19th century village setting on Seashore Rd. near Old Brick Church. Lessons will be given on an hourly basis, several times weekly. All ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in these American heritage art forms. Call 884-1810 for scheduling and other information.

In addition to the age requirement, eligible contestants must never have been married, must be a high school graduate by Labor Day of 1982 and must either live, work or attend school within the county. THE CROWN IS currently being worn by Mary Beth Mangold of Strathmere, who will compete for the J Miss New Jersey title beginning July 2. She will crown her successor and be a featured performer in this year’s county pageant. Previous title holders include Mary Matthews of Lower Township. Three others were among the state finalists. Any young woman interested in’obtaining more information about the pageant is encouraged to call 399-4814 as soon as possible. She can also write to the pageant at P.O. Box 262, Ocean City. 08226. Tom Williams will again serve as Executive Director and Producer of this year’s pageant. The other key members of the board of directors include Janet Andrews, Stina Blomkvest Heminway, Jack Breslin and Joe Fagan.
