I wonder‘how many of us really appreciate that miraculous achievement of 205 years ago The Virginia aristocraV Massachusetts fishermap. (ieorgia planters New Jersey farmers, Philadelphia lawyers. New York businessmen — all joined together not only, to free themselves from overseas rulers, but also to institute a formofgovernment which has given bur people a freedom found nowhere else in the worl^' Its message has been so appealing that our population is made up of descendants of emigrants from every other nation, and they are still arriving • IN THE LAST TWO DECADES*patriotism has been sneered at The young have been stuffed with facts about America s imperfections before they are taught to understand our country’s unique virtues Because they do not know or understand what other forms of government are really like, many have used the freedom guaranted them to*condemn their own country for flaws in the system. Thet have been aided and abetted by those who do koow dur freedom is rare in the World, and that here there it* always p strong determination to prevent injustice. Patriotism need not Me blind, but it should be certain. In totalitarian countries, love of country is unquestionable and unquestioning WITH AM. British Seagull 387 — ; ; rAir Rights by Ima Byrd In a way. birds are lucky, we can rise above those chemical sprays that are becoming commonplace in J^ie world of humans. People have managed to pollute the earth, water and' every other corner of their land It was inevitable that they would attack the air ;it wouldn't be so bad if they covered up their insidious ventures of dumping toxic chemicals on unsuspecting children and adults mot to mention wildlife). But these uncaring humaas are & unconcerned about their fellowmcn they just dump their poisoas without Any regard tor anyone They do it blatantly and, from what most of the birds have observed, they do it from unmarked planes JUST TO PLAY THE GAME fair and give another view, a friend of mine said human planes are only required to have letters six inches high. Now I can tell you this, we birds watched one area get sprayed six different- times. Spy even moved in for a closer look (he's doing'a book on the stupidity of human beings) and he couldn't see any markings on those planes anywhere. •It seems as if humans just don't have any air rights at all Birds are very sensitive about air rights. We have our own constitution that protects OUR air rights and believe me no one better take them away from us. v Humans, they're different. They seem to put up with anything In the name of "gypsjj moths" or anything else that annoys them, they will spew their chemicals on anyone like it or not. They fly over school cNIdren waiting for buses or little ones playing outside; they just drop their oiled poisons wherever they are contracted to deliver .. THE MOST TERRIBLE THING of all about these chemical laden planes is that the people don't seem to care They arc even apathetic to the apathetic officials who are paid, and paid plenty, to protect their environment. 1

RAISE The FLAG

* by Shirlianne i\

" * ,/• Raise the flag in all its glory e To the sound of history’s call As the beauty of the moment Lifts the banner from its fall.. Windy battles, past nqliving, Break her stars and stripes to two; But the strength, the bounding spirit Moldes once.more — red, white and blue.

War, th^ selfish money interests,

All of politics vast greed May in temporary measure Rent v her cloth in ugly scars, But the gallant Betsy banner

Still rides high her stripes and stars.

Deep in history’s quiet spirit

Sparks the flame that keeps man free,

And in fctat reflective symbol Flies the mask of liberty.

During a recent spraying of school children in Dehnis Township (verified by parents, bus drivers and other adults J, parents showed NO reaction of any kind to an official’s statement that "No child went to the school nurse to complain about being sprayed, therefore^) CHILD WAS SPRAYED!" ^ Birds wouldn’t stand for such nonsense if their air rights were being destroyed, but of course we’re much closer to the subject, and our officials have a lot more concemand common sense than human officials. AND WHAT REALLY HAS the birds laughing is that it isn’t even war time. We just don't understand why humans in the U.S. haven't learned their lesson from secret Agent Orange, used in Viet Nam to destroy everything including their own men. But humans ddh’l seem to care about that either. Veterans of Viet Nam who were exposed to Agent Orange and who suffered illness, death and deformities in their offspring can’t seem to get any recognition of their problem from anyone. The Ca^fornia Canary, a famous bird, singer, told us that even though veterans fasted to get the government tq help them, so far very little has been done.

Did Jefferson Have Right Idea About Taxes?

by Herbert G. Saltzsieder Whose tax plan would benefit us most? Reagan’s, O’Neill’s or Jefferson's? Jefferson thought a progressive income tax would be best. It puts the heaviest burden on the strongest shoulders. If it was used for all government income we’d have no sales tax, real estate tax, turnpike tolls, fuel, alcohol or tobacco tax. and those taxes all increase prices. Without them inflation would end, interest rates would drop, construction would boom, we’d export more cars than we import and alcohol would be cheaper than gasoline. I’d (hie) vote for that. • Herbert C Saltzsieder is a resident of Willingboro.

The vets want a meeting with their president. That doe%p't seem like much of a request in view of their suffering and dedication to their country. But nothing is happening. CANARY TOLD US THAT the reason vets are having such difficulty being heard is because the big companies that produce chemicals have a lot of control over officials. The health and welfare of humans is no match for the money and power that dictates government priorities. Canary also said that the spraying in Viet nam of Agent Orange should have been a lesson to humans, but it wasn’t. Millions of gallons of chemicals mixed with fuel oil are dumped on the earth every year — and this is without a war. Canary ^aid it’s the same all across the country, and it’s not just affecting humans. "We haven’t seen one bee or wasp since they sprayed Sevin in our area," she said. "It just doesn’t seem right. Someone ought to wake up those humans before it’s too late. After awhile all the people sprayed will be dead and some human official will say, ’no one protested, so no one was sprayed."’ "Humans are sure crazy,” said the little yellow bird. Next week - MUA
