464 lb humpback, and Ben’s wife Ann caught a 60 pounder The same night Bob Gregor? had Herb Me Fate .out. and Herb got a 624 lb drum, while Bob Gregory Jr. was boating a 52’3/8 lb orte bn Bob's boat, the Comefol THE NIGHT BEFORE. Charles Pope weighed in a 65-7/8 lb. drum and l.inda Pope Tmated a ^4-5/8 pounder Jim Magill of Villas got a drum Monday night mn his boat; while Jules Schubert of Villas got a 56 lb. hearty as Ben Budd was repeating with a 56-3/8 lb drum George Devinney was fishing with Ed Clark and they got two drum; and Joan Roseman called me to report that Mike Linicus on the Salt Shaker weighted in a 3» lb drum Saturday So the first of the week was loaded with drum catches until the effects of tropical storm Brett started’ being felt Tuesday—and after that me rough seas kept almost everyone at the dock. One drum fisherman who-didn’t quit was Dave Fleishman of the Villas Lou Jtipuy called to tell mfe-4hat Dave weighted in a 70 lb. drum Wednesday night. THE WEATHER caused a moderate ^decline in fishing during the week, but the night chumming boats scored well. Oapt. Jim Cicchltti told me that the Starlight had a banner night Wednesday with 300 pounds of jumbo blues*and a very satisfied party. The story I just squeezed in last week sure had a happy ending- Jack Osborne was on the 30 fathom line when,he picked up those four yellow fin tuna., and Don Murphy got two white marlin in the Red Beard.

He gave the Doran “C numbers of Jimmy Goodroes. who manages Harvey’s Victorian restaurant in Cape May, and the next day Jim $>t 4 more, tuna in the same place — one of. the yellowfins went 110 lbs., which is the biggest I’ve heard of this season, and they jumped off two whiles., so Jack really found a hot spot. ' I GOT A chance to get out on the Red Beard with Jack and Keenan Osborne and Don Murphy on July 4th. and I saw firsthand the action there. It was the best •July 4th trip I’ve had in many a moon Jack startled the action with a 68 lb. yellow fin, and then Keenan hooked a medium 'sized white marlin which jumped all over the ocean, and finally he and Don Murphy released it. I got a chance about 15 “fainutes later—and that white showed his. dorsal, and then pulled the hook (that's a polite way of say-

ing 1 1 blew it). JACK OSBORNE then hooked a nice sized white, and brought him to the release; .then Don Murphy went into actidn, and hooked and landed a 71 lb. yellow fin., and right after that he set thb hook into a good sized white, which we released at the boat, then Keenen put the topper on the day with another white which was reteased for his second of tile day. so vye came in witft four r* flags on whites, and two tuna in the box. Yf* get much better than that. Maybe I’m getting older and wiser, but I can honestly say I enjoyed that trip as much as any Tve taken lately, even if I didn't get a marlin. The companionship and the action plus a successful catch makes a fishing trip worthwhile. Also youth must be served, and Keenan did a real good job on those two marlin. My day will come! IF EVERYTHING goes

right, I will have a firsthand report on the South Jersey Fishing Center's marlin tournament. It should be a good one with all the whites showing in the Canyon. One last story that I missed last week- Capt. Sieve Rea had on the • Bivo last weekend. Jerry

Gray and his party from Tanks Place In Philadelphia had»(ished <Sff both the old Bivol and the new one, over the years, and “they proved themselves offshore with Capt. Steve. They found a school of jumbo blues early, and brought back 60 in the 12 tOi!4 lb. range.
