the old time Cape May docks when almost every fishing boat used that port, except this time there were 83 of the finest sport fishing boats, trying to get weighed in. Our luck wasn’t too good on the first day. I had a white come up off the teaser, and I got a hook in him with a green machine, but he got loosdin the middle of a run. Later on in the day John Matzcak had the same thing happen. imd this wap our last opportunity. Cpt Joey foundthose white marlin, but we couldn’t do anything with them. We also had a tuna boil in the baits, but he didn’t get hooked either, THAT NIGHT OVER 6.000 pounds of yellow fin tuna were weighed in along with 14 white marlin. Jack Osborne, on the Spring Fever had an interesting day. They went all the way to Washington Canyon and came back with four whites. Bill Diller s boat the Canyon Lady was down there too, with Cpt. Ray Vandergrift at the helm. They had two whites, and one of the marlin.was taken by Dr. Irv Sussman (ope of the legends of sport fishing on the Cape Dr. Irv still holds the record of 4 21 whites id one day on his boat). The secohd day John Reichard, of Avalon, andkjohn Dawkey of QuakertoWn joined our grbup, and we lei-t the dock determined to fish harder, and try to caUPUhe leaders. About 10 o’clock Jim Evans hooked a big tuna, but hte took a dive uhder the boat, and cut the line on our whevns. Then John Reichard broke the ice as he hooked and Janded a 45 pound yellow fin, and about 1:30 Jim Evans hooked and landed a 48 pound yellow fin which Jeff Severance gaffed at the boat. Then the fire went out, so we picked up our lines at 3 o'clock and came home with two tuna and a flag flying. AFTER WE WEIGHTED THEM IN. the same procedure started again as all those b^canyon boats started bringing their.fish in. There was a big eye on the South Bound that weighed 297 lbs., and a white marlin on the Our Pal caught by Mike Kraticek that weighed 89 pounds.

• Boyd Tyltr LARGEST TUNA, all 297 lbs of it, garnered trophy for Jim Kory, here receiving it from Cpt. Dick Weber, left, while other sport fishermen look on. ,

I'M SORRY THAT I CAN only name boats, but there were so many distant toats in thejouriiameht that it was hard to get all the captiins' nameT*On the Spring Fever I know that Jim WallactN^leased a marlin and so did Ted Willis, Bill Shuda, and Ken'Shockley. Cpt. Mark Terpening, who runs the boat, did a good job. I saw a lot of old time friends on the docks — Bert Gable, Scott Smith. Joe Brodessor, and Tom Brodessor, Cpt. "•Jake" 9olce. and a host of others I’ve marlin fished with over the years. But as I was telling Cpt. Bruce Sessoms, who ran the Ocean 55. "it’s been a long While since rve seen so many all in one place. I think Cpt. Dick Weber and his wife Betsy plus their whole working force deserve a lot of credit for putting on such a tremendous contest. I know it will be talked about up and down the coaRt. THIS WEEK IS THE Cape May County marlin tournament. I’ll try to come up with a report on that too. The only other fishing news I have came from Jim’s Bait & Tackle. .Bill was telling me that they found a pretty good spread of weakfish around FA buoy, so maybe our ocean fishing will pick up this next week
