OCEAN CITY-Over 100 decorated boats are expected to brighten the Bay Saturday evening during the ^7th annual Night In Venice, one of this resort’s

major events. '

The gala begins 6 p.m. on Great Egg Harbor Bay near the Longport Bridge and will extend as far as South Harbor near Tennessee AVe. (beyond 21st Street) Bay front and lagoon homesf will be decorated andydigible for prizes along wrth boats. OVER 20®,o4o visitors are expected to view the spectacle from grandstands and parties held along the Bay. The city provides the special seating and there is no charge. The parade will be led by Miss Night In Venice, a local lass selected by townspeople via donations to the Cape May County Rescue Squad. Photos of contestants are placed in strategic (locations and voting takes place by donation. The winner was to be at the Music Pier during the concert of the City’s Or-

chestra tonight. BOATS WILL compete in five categories according to size: Most Original, Best Decorated, Comi6, Musical, Club/Commercial. Houses are judged by lagoon location. Entry fonns are available at the Ocean City Yacht Club, Bay and Battersea Road, Public Relations Office, 9th and Asbury Ave., Chic’s Decorator Service, 725 Asbury Ave. There is no en-

try fee.

The annual celebration, based on a similar gala that originated ih Venice, Italy, is sponsored by the

city. Chamber of Commerce and ocean City Yacht Club. The event is supervised by the U.S. Coast Guard and Marine Police and all safe boating regulations will be strictly enforced. Bay front street ends will be closed to traffic at 5:30 p.m. AS NIGHT COMES on, the waterfront becomes ablaze with color from Japanese lanterns and the myriad of home decorations. “New Years in July" is probably an apt way to describe the event which has captured the knaginations of millions over the

years.

Guest of honr will lx* Ed Hurst, Philadelphia television and padio personality, who is currently taping "Danceworld U.'S.A." a nationally syndicated show from the City’s Music Pier Big band leader, William Sackett, will provide entertaiment at the Yacht Club following the parade and also be an honored guest.
