Soitfe of us can 'remember when Charlie came around purveying his tservice door-to-door but for some time now we have been taking oor beat-up booties to his quaint little shop to get a few months mileage out of a pair of well broken : in favorites. MR. YOUNG is onaof the last of. a breed of artisans who take pride in their work and nothing pleases him more than to make a hopeless case into wearable shoes again. His wife and helpmate, Ida M. Lee Young, has worked beside him always, and a trip to their shop had many rewards. They have always had a flourishing garden and Mrs.' Young’s preserved fruits and vegetables have graced many, a table. A secret shared only by old customers is the fact that the Youngs always have the best raspberries available. They are over for this year but the little store is bursting with comestibles, so try .them if you haven^alrea^^^

HOPE YOU GOT to the Chicken B.B.Q. It was sponsored by the Stone Harbor Resque Squad under the leadership of Cpt. Bob Rich and his lieutenants, Chuck Frambe and Dan Lloyd. , The corps had a busy day as usual Sunday. In addition to the fete in tfie evening they answered four calls for emergency assistance that day. As early as it is In the season they need only six more calls to exceed the total for all of last summer! , THE DINNER was crowded to capacity and including the takeoiit platters they sold 1,320. Hard at work we observed Mary & Will Allen, Mary Ann & Herb Gornsby, Bob & Billy Sellers, Joyce McDevitt, Nancy Lloyd, Joan Hutchinson and beautiful Alex Kokonos among others. The grub was swellegant and the service excellent The Rescue Service performs 24 hours a day on a year-round basis with volunteer help. They offer blood pressure check-ups every Friday between 7 and 9 p m. at the firehouse. They are in their 4th year of service at this community., Not to worry if you missed this barbeque — it was so successful there’ll be another on August 16. Mark it down. SPEAKING OF antiques, as we were earlier, we

bought a skirt at Bob Bennetch’fc shop 216 96th St. and met his wife Barbara wile we were there. Barbara, and Bob have had a shop in Hershey, Pa. for some years and at the suggestion of Jack Seltzer, a Pennsylvania legislator, they opened one here six

years ago.

They don’t, just sell . dresses they also specialize in antiques, which is what got us talking. Barbara has a mouth-watering collection. She has a partial set of Meissen: teapot, sugar, creamer and plates in the < grape leaf pattern with

swan handles that makes collectors swoon. If you crave Kollection dresses, silk screens, appliqued or embroidered or have an esoteric taste in artifacts, this emporium is

your dish.
