I j»st wM-k saw quite a bit of action in the bluefiah troll-' ing fleet f rpmlhe weekend to the end of the week; and, of fshota in/tfie canyon it got hot for one boat at the start of the week, mjf Just when the (*ape May County Marlin Tournament was scheduled to go. the windstarted to blow, aitd it robtied the canyon contestants of twd good days of good boatipg. . Actually they only got one good day df fishing, and ten whites were registered in the tournament You've got to have the weather with you in fishing, or you’re out of Juck I.*:tP START ON Till-: hluefish first in our news for this week The, firsf report 1 heard was on Monday. Jeff Severance, mat* 1 on the Mitn Pen field said Cpt. .Foe Drove> Fuid a tyirty out that day, arid they got 48 jumbo hluefish in the 8 to 12 lb range Then on Thursday Jkck A Keenan Osborne traveled fo the Northeast End with two other anglers on the Red Heard and came’bapk with 36 jumbos that .weighed a total of 350 lbs AhcTon Saturday, < j,(. Don Wui-pfry and Keenan on the Rod Beard collected 16 more jumbos for a party from the Wise Potato ChipCo-., while Cpt. Al Nacr and Jack Macfiregor on the Huehlrburh got 15 jumbos for |Jart of the sam^ party. So, big blues were very much in evidence Jack Osborne told me on Thursday they found a school of "splashers," and they were all over the top Of the water
NOW TO THE CANYON. On Sunday In the tip of the Baltimore, Cpt. Emmet Sheridan on the Rockaway raised eight whites, arid got four of them — that‘8 a pretty good
average. ' On the same day inshore on the 30 fathom line, Mike McDonald, age 10, hooked and released a 70 lb white on Cpt. George Garlands Osprey out of Stone Harbor. His dad I Mike McDonald also) called me from Philadelphia to tell me of this thrilling catch for a 10-year-old. They were accompanied by Mike's brother Sean, age 9, and Cpt. George's son, age 6 — and they raised another white that
day, so they had quite a time.
The real tough spot of the week though was Tuesday and Wednesday when the wind hit 25 to 35 knots northwest pff in the deep, and the Cape May County Marlin Contest Weather Committee wisely decided to hold the tournament up They did get a chance to go Thursday, but it’s
tough to find billfish after a blow like that.

Third place went to Capt. Ed Ferries on the R&T who released his at 10 a.m. Next year will be better, fellows!, • • t ONE THING I DIDN’T touch on wfis weakfishing, and there has been some bit and miss weaklfshing going on up the Bay inside Miah Maul shoal. Joe MacGregor took a friend up there Fridaypand found those nice Blg weakies NE of the shoal, and they came home with 32 tiderunners. So Nate High. Ixm Rodia, and I headed up there Saturday. Lou had talked to Ralph Knisell on Friday, and we had the hotspots, so we took the Janie VII up there, but Saturday was a differept day, and thfey bit before we got there — even though we left at 8 a.m. We came home with five nice weakfish, and two good flounders, and returned about ten small flatties to grow up. So. it's a hit of miss proposition\with a long ride attached. Sunday proved to be an amazing day on the 30 fathom line for Jack Osborne, Capt. Don Murphy, "Cleaning” Keenan Osborne and I on the 30 fathom line. We wound up with two yellow fin tuna, eight true Albacore, and three marlin up in thehaits that for one reason oi another didn't get hooked. "CLEANING" KEENAN STARTED IT off with a 27 lb. true Albacore, then Capt. Murphy followed with a 59 lb. yellowfin, and Jack followed with a 65 lb. yellowfin tuna. Later on in the day, Capt.'Don was running the boat, and we had five true Albacore on at one time. What a fire drill that was — but we spved them all! Jack caught one of them on 12 lb. test during that attack. I had the pleasure of running the Red Beard when Don Murphy was catching a true albacore, and it was an ex-
fathom line and caught two yellow fin tuna for his party, and Capt. Gregg on the Arianne had two yellow fins for this grou^. So all in all, it was quite a week! McClure's Cops Title
