4th Ferry Joining Fleet

LEWES. DEL. - The Delaware River and Bay Authority will dedicate its new ferry, the MV. New' Del. at the Cape May-. Lewes Ferry terminal here U:30 a.m., July 23. # The vessel Will be christened by its sponsor. Mrs. Elise R.W. duPont, with the^raditional breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship's bow. Mrs.'duPtmt is the wife of Delaware Gov. Pierre S. duPont, who also will participate in the dedication ceremonies. M.V. NEW DEL. which will be placed into service immediately following .the dedication, will permit the use of four ferry vessels during the peak summer season. Following the dedication service, the public may board the vessel and inspect it from

noon until 2 p.m The new ferry is 320 feet long and 68 feet wide with a maximum draft of 7 feet. It can carry 300 passengersand 100 vehicles at a speed ,of, up to 16 knots. The ship wa$. constructed by the Norfolk Shipbuilding & Dtydock Corporation under a $10.7 million contract signed August 1979 THE .
