Memorial a Close Race
AVALON - In a calm picturesque hight, one second made the difference in both the Doubles and Singles boat face, during the 7th Annual General E.V.H. Bell Memorial rowing and swimming races. The Doubles ’earn of Rob Graham and Pete Soderman won in the l-Vfc mile race in a time of 14:18:5 over the defending champions David Kerr and Dan O’Malley with a time of 14:19:48. Jim Ronan and Steve O'Malley took third with a time of 14:38. O'Malley the defending singles champion was nosed out again in the 1/4 mile singles race by one second by Jim Ronan with a time of 7:19. O'Malley’S time was 7:20 with Mike Robinson placing third in 7:22. THREE-TIME City champ and Tri-City champ, Ed Florey won easily in the 3/4 mile swim with a time of 17:05. He took the l^ad at the start and never relinquished it. Mike Wolper was Second in 18:50 over John Havlic 18-51. Stevan Mecklenbui% came in fourth with a time .of 19:28.
The 150-yd. surf dash was .won by Bob Pellini; Kevih Parker second; Mike Wolper third and Dan O'Malley fourth. The city races are a tuneup for the upcoming South Jersey Championships.
