School Board May Double Meetings

ERMA - The hiring of an assistant high school principal, a Regulation dealing with the problem of class cutting, and the possibility of scheduling two board meetings a month instead of one — all may be up for discussion during a special meeting this evening (Wednesday at 8) of the Ldwer Cape May Regional \Board of Education. The special meeting was called primarily to ratify negotiated contracts with the cafeteria workers, custodians and school aides; and for bus, truck and offset duplicator bids. Other items were placed on the agenda in case board members wished to discuss them. THE BOARD received the contracts the day of their last meeting in July but didn’t have time to act on them. Details of the contracts,, each of which includes a different renumeration scale, were unavailable. The need for an assistant principal has been discussed for some time, and there is a possibility at tonight's meeting that a recommendation wiH be forthcoming from the Personnel Committee. ' »

For Nuclear Disarmament

MOTORISTS ARE cautioned that new traffic lights are now fully operational at the Rt. 109-Ocean Dr. intellection on the north side of the canal bridge into Cape May kt the foot of the Carden State Pkwy. Authorities have expressed concern that there may be rear-end collisions as a result of drivers being unaccustomed to stopping in the vicinity of the high-accident crossing.

For Peace?” and ‘‘Peac,e Eyes.” He is professor of theology at Georgetown University.. He will also be the featured speaker in. Cape May 3 p.m. Saturday at a gathering at Rotary Park.

Activities will feature food, beverages, gahies for young and old and music.

Windmill Ordinance On Books

LOWER TOWNSHIP - This municipality has officially become one of the first in the country to have an ordinance on the books regulating the construction and maintenance of windmills. Last week the Township Committee unanimously adopted the document that was originally approved by the local Planning board more than a year ago. Under the regulations, a windmill may be built in any part of the township to service ode main building and accessory buildings. MAXIMUM HEIGHT permitted Nwithout a variance is 75 ft..rand the noise level of the system mustn’t exceed 50 decibels. All plans for the construction of the tower and its

foundation must be approved by a certified engineer before construction begins. The heart of the ordinance was writtem by township planning aide Joe Zahora based upon information received from numerous companies and government agencies knowledgable in the specialized technique of harnessing wind as an energy source. Some of his sources include Rockwell International, Solar Energy Research Inst., Atlantic Electric, and the NlJ. Dept, of Energy.
