Fishing Contest Set At Park

TO HELP RAISE MOISEY for the Park Zoo. there will be a $1 entry fee, but each entrant will receive a free fishing lure with a retail value of $1.50. Prt-registration for the tournament may he com pleted by telephone prior to the contest’date by calling 405-303rbetween9a.m. and 3 p m weekdays .All registrants must sign in between 9 a nr, and 10:30 a m on the oay of the contest. MEDFORD - The New Jersey Pinelands Commis sion has recommended that the Dept, of Environmental Protection reconsider its proposal to reintroduce black bear4 into the Pinelands. The Commission heard' public testimony Friday on the DEP Division of Fish. Game, and Wildlife proposal which has evoked strong opposition from South Jersey farmers, beekeepers, campground owners — and at least our Cape May County sporlsman. COMMISSIONERS adopted a resolution asking the Division of Fish, Game, and Wildlife to reevaluate the proposal 1)608use of the “economic and safety .concerns expressed by the public." Farmers have expressed fears that the hears may do

extensive damage to crops and property. Secretary of Agriculture PhUlip Alampi has said he is "unalterably opposed" to the reintroduc-., uon of black bears into the Pinelapds. Volleyball On Beach CAPE MAY - The city will conducRtts 1st Annual Beach voll^ball tournament Saturday and Sunday, if a sufficient number of teams are interested. Tournament divisions for Coed, Women’s and Men's teams are planned, with the top three finishers having the opportunity to earn awards. All tournament participants and spectators will be required to wear beach tags while on the beaches.
