Senator George Mitchell of Maine has introduced a - bill in thc.U.S. Senate to increase the fishermen's exemption from having to pay the Federal Unemploy-
ment Tax (FUTA).
Several fishermen edritacted Stewart $1 Tweed, marine extension agent, in January concerned about paying the FU1*A tax.on self-employ&l crew members. The’slatus of the tax at that tirft! was that self-employed crew members did not have to pay FUTA tax on their earnings but that the boat owner might still be subject to the tax oh crew members. Exemptions . were restricted to boats under 10 net tons and ▼ employing less . than 10
crew members.

Young men who reach their 18th birthday are required by law to register with Selective Service at any U S. Post Office. Within 30 days 6f his birthday, a man fills out a registration form which asks only for name, address. phone number, social security number,
and date of birth.
The purpose of registration is to have available on a computer the names of men born in 1960 and later years, who could be contacted quickly if there ever were a national emergency and Congress were to declare an induction. To date, nearly.6 million men have registered. Failure to register is a felony, punishable by a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine and/or five
years in prison.
