Usually I have a story about fishing > oi\ the weekend on the Jabis T VII or the Red Beard but this week my tale is all bad. On Friday night Frank Hirieline, John Fisher, and I started out on the Janis after weakfish. Halfway through the canal she started to heat up. and as soon as I cleared the canal jetties I cut efff her engine to see what was the matter We never got her started again, as we anchored off Town Bank, and called for help to Rossmans Boat Yard and Cpt. Don Murphy. In about a half hour Cpt Don arrived in the Top Drawer II. a 13’ Boston whaler, and went to work on the engine. HE’S AN excellent marine 1 mechanic, .and after taking down the distributor head fixing the timing spring, he discovered the timing gear had broken. At that point, he secured the whaler to the side of the Janie T\ and pull<4Tus home — and that ride is something that John Fisher and Frank Hineline will talk about for a long time to come. Now comes thfe next part of my tale of woe. Jack Osborne. Don Murphy, and " I left Cape Island Saturday, on the Red Beard for Baltimore Canyon. We arrived at the tip of the canyon about 9:30. and just as we were 'setting out the lines, a blade let go from metal fatigue on the port engine, so we lost our portside power; and there was nothing for us to do but troll home. It took us eight hours to^feet back, but we made.it I.IFi: IS NOT alwaJL rosy, especially when you have a breakdown, but the real secret is to stay calm, and concentrate on getting back to the dock.
