Panthers Look To Defense

by Bill Sherman COURT HOUSE - The Middle Twp. High School Panthers opened practice Aug. 17 at Memorial Field under the direction of Head Coach Phil Ex ley and assistants, Brian Tetley and John Kaigh. Forty-five aspiring players showed up to start getting in shape. Nine of the 11-man defensive team are back, so that should be the strong point

of the team this year. Coach Exlcy intends to install the wishbone offense this year, but will have to find a whole new starting backfield Leading contenders an 4 Jeff Tomlin. Jeff Tanner, Tom Gihorski and Rich Rhinesmith. Pillars of strength on the defense are Jeff Kane and Frank Brown at Defensive ends and "Hutch'’ Hutchinson at center.

ONE OF 9 fluke caught in the Rips is displayed by Steve Nelson of Holland Pa. He proved his abilities aboard the Rainbow. eye on the weather. We all tended to tr^at “Dennis" lightly, hut it was a dangerous storm; luckily after it left Hatteras, it went out to sea. OQr Civil Defense was on the alert, because we were in a very vulnerable position I hate to write this way. but our weather hasn’t had a good pattern all year, and it bears watching for the rest

of the season.

Lastly. I got a chance to view the offers of the had fire that toolBWace on the Wildwood boarawalk last week, and I want to express my sympathy for th( businesses that suffered losses. The fire companies that responded and worked so diligenlty to contain the blaze deserve a lot of credit for fheir dedication The winds from the edge of "Dennis" gave them a lot

' of problems.
