Q R N E R by Leslie Steyson^ ^ ’ The Wild Edge: Life &'Lore ^ i of the Great Atlantic Beaches ® ' THE WILD EDGE is Iht cnly book I am familiar with which contains such a diversity of information about the Atlantic coastal beaches. Many residents and visitors are interested in finding out more about the shells, the birds, the plants and the geological make-up of the shores, but that usually means doing research in a number of different books. THE WILD EDGE concentrates on the area from the Bay of Fundy to the Carolinas, which means that it covers the shells we find, the birds we see, and the vegetation growing on our dunes. The book is both entertaining and instructive. The author identifies and discusses all the inhabitants of the sands and the waters of the sea and marshes. He also writes about the erosion of the barrier beach islands, pollution, and other aspects of life on the Atlantic shores. THE WILD EDGE should be of great interest to anyone' who enjoys walking the beaches. It is a must if you want a handy reference on beach life.
