ShopRite hypermarkets announced today the introduction of a new con sumer program, BE SENSIBLE Nutriton ^eries. in all its stores. The program is designed to farriiiiarize and help consumers identify the sodium, fat and calorie content of foods. The nutrition series reflects the growing concern over the possible relationship of nutrition &qd speh chronic health problems as heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, dental care and diabetes. A recent survey conducted by the USDA indicates that almost twothirds of those surveyed had adjusted household dietg^or health or nutrition reasons in the past three years. THE PAMPHLETS were designed in response to some/'bf the recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans established by the Senate Select Committee * on Nutrition. These guidelines call for avoiding too much

sale, avoiding too much fat, maintaining ideal weight, eating foods with adequate starch and fiber, avoiding too much sugar, and eating a variety of foods. With the help of formation in the pampfylets, healthy consumers can" Uke steps, where desirable, to cut baik on possible' >excesses. For people on special diets who have trouble choosing foods appropriate for their diet needs, these pamphlets should make shopping easier and more economical. THERE ARE SIX pamphlets in the series. A new one will be issued each month and will be available free of charge in all ShopRi te Supermarkets Shelf signs throughout the stores highlight foods low in sodium, fat and calories. Pamphlets can also be obtained by writing Mrs. Sylvia N«del, Consumer Affairs Dept., ShopRite Supermirkets, 600 York St., Elizabeth, N.J. 07207.
