Ronan, S.S.L. was a blockbuster! It was held at the Women's *Civic Club and their room was filled to capacity with friends of all persuasions. The parking
jots were 'jammed and . Father Ronan was truly overwhelmed by the number of friends he has made in his two years as Assoc. Pastor of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic, Church in Stone Harbor. Father Vincent J. Giammarino made a moving farewell speech telling us how difficult it is to lose such 4i dear friend and cjose associate. When he said he was happy that Father Ronan would only be as far away as Wildwood, he was too overcome by emotion to continue. Father Ronan starts at St. Ann’s in Wildwood this week.
THE PHILISTINES were upon us a short time ago. South of 96th St. it became impossible to work in your garden, walk your dog or go outdoors for any reason due to an infestation of mosquitoes big enough to saddle. Stores were running out of insect repellant, residents and visitors to the community were becoming frantic. The source was quickly traced to the bird sanctuary where stagnant pools had formbd following several days of rain. Mayor Jim Wood, ifTter checking to find that the insecticide “Malathion” was absolutely harmless to animals and humans of any age, ordered Stone Harbor be sprayed immediately. The amount used was 2.8 ounces per acre and proved highly effective. We missed the Realty Owners’ Assn, regular fall
meeting but understand members were told another sprtiying by air will sobn take place and Boro trucks will be equipped with spraying devices. Long-range planning for preventing a recurrence of the situation includes the creation of a small, deep pond, well-stocked’ with fish. The fish will feed on the larvae and rid us of this unpleasant and unhealthy nuisance. Ecology Talk at Wetlands Sat.
