Dredging Snarl Hit By Salmon
MILLVILLE • - "Hereford^Inlet is a vital, navigable waterway where boating plays a major role in our economy," state senate candidate Edward H. Salmon said recently, "there’s only one thing wrong. "It’s virtually'unnavigable for mdny boats!” The Cumberland Freeholder added, "The interests of those using the inlet have not been served by the bickering and namecalling of local officials, the Department of En* vironmental Protection and a member of the state assembly. Instead of keeping ahead of possible problems, everyone concerned Pleasure Ave. Paving Next SEA ISLE CITY /- The city’s road paving ptbgram will be getting started again after a busy summer tourist season in the resort, it was announced at a recent commissioner’s meeting. is pointed a finger.” SALMON POINTED out that in late June, the DEP announced it was abandoning plans to dredge the heavily shoaled inlet, because North Wildwood and StOM Harbor failed to come dp with maiching funds to help finance the project. At that time, DEP was prepared to pay $300,000 as its share and fully expected the payment of $150,000 each from the two communities. The angry reaction of the assemblyman for Cape May-Cumberland did nothing to clear the air or produce the much-needed funds. Salmon said. "There certainly was no one following this up,”

Taking part are, left to right, Cumberland Freeholder Director Charles Fisher, Freeholder Gary F. Simmerman, Assembly candidate Henry R. Ricci, Salmon, and Assmebly candidate Williani Woods.
Salmon * continued. "Somewhere along the line, someone forgot his responsibility to the boating electorate. By comparison, you have only to go to the Double CreekBarnegat Inlet area in
Ocean County to see the result of 100 percent thinking...and funding, why we were only slated for 50-50 I’ll never know. Not staying on top of this project so very vital to everyone was unforgivable.
