VILLAS -.A tetter seeking the help of Lower Township Chamber of Commerce member* in opposing the proposed cutback to 3 a m. cloaing for township taverns has been sent out by Robert F. Conroy Jr. The appeal is made on the letterhead of Citizens-Against Higher Taxes, IlstihgConroy as chairman, 5-7 Delaware Pkway., which is the address of the Pirate’s Den, the tavern and restaurant operated by Conroy. * , "On Nov. 3,” Conroy says, "a question will appear on the ballot which would force . complete closing at 3 a.m. during the summer. As a practical matter, this would force us to discontinue service long before 3 a.m. We really would lose a least M/2 hours in which tbjio business every day of the week. That coifld be disastrous to some licensees." * * 1 . CONROY LISTS THE following reasons for asking help to defeat dhe ballot question: \ "I. We are in a a highly competitive business which depends upon summer Bowmen’s Harvest

vacationers for twojor three ‘good’ months to offset the stew months of fall, winter and Spring. ‘*1. Police Bre generally satisfied with present hours. "3. The 5 a.m. closing with a 3 a.m. limit on admissions prevents a mass exodus at 3 o'clock in the morning. “4. Retail licensees pay a 8500 fee annually to operate. xr. "I. LICENSEES PAY' approximately 8300,000 in taxes which would be jeopardized if'hours fare slashed "6. Payrolls of licensees are in the millions. "7. Lfcensees spend hundreds' of thousands of doHars with locallsuppliers.” > Chamber members are asked to help by making certain everyone in their families and their employ are registered to vote, to tell friends and neighbors "hoW unfair the proposW-closing would be during the busy vacation season/’ by casting their own votes against the reduction in houi^, and by helping to distribute literature.

TRENTON r New Jersey bow hunters bagged what appears to be the second • highest number of deer on opening day of the archery deer season, Sept. 26. The New Jersey Division

of Fish, Game and Wildlife* estimates that approximately 460 deer were taken on Saturday. The division stresses, however, that final figures will not be available for another two weeks.

If the estimate is correct, however, it will represent the second best deer Harvest for the opening day of the bow season since 1977. The ‘ best season opener was last year, when 703 deer were recorded.
