DON’T MISS the big parade Sunday marking the 50th ahniversary of the Villas Volunteer Fire Co. It begins at noon in Del Haven and proceeds dovJh Bayshore Rd.,„ past the firehouse to Breakwater Rd. Fire companies from Cape May, as well as Delaware, will participate. After flte parade, hurry on ovrt’ to the party A the firehouse. There’s sure to be plenty of good food and beverage for all. • • * GUESS Committee «woman Peggie Bicbcrbach will have to struggle thru another year without any Democratic support on the Township Committee. . The local Democratic Organization has opted not to run a candidate in this year’s Committee race, and only thrde days before the deadline for gettihg a . candidate on the ballot officially announced it won’t endorse either of two Republican candidates. THE DECISION dashes the hopes of both incumbent mayor Tom Clydesdale ' and Independent-Republican • James Walker to receive the organization's support — a desire of each since Democratic candidate Bill Hughes (no relationship to the congressman) was forced to withdraw from the race several weeks ago due to health reasons. In announcing the Party’s decision, leader Pat Calfina called on all Democrats, to vote a straight Democratic ticket. “By no means should anyone give up their'right to vote,” she said. ‘‘Follow your individual conscience in reference to the Township Committee.” • • • NEWLY ADOPTED attendance requirements for Lower Cape May Regional students appear tq be significantly reducing absenteeism at both the high school and the Teitelman School. The new regulations mandate that students absent from school 8 per cent of the tifne — 15 unexcused absences — automatically lose course credits. During September fulltime attendance at the High School was 94.4 per cent while attendance at the Teitelman School was 95.4 per cent. Students attending the vocational school for half a day had a slightly lower attendance rate — 90.4 per cent. Some 1,150 students are enrolled at\the high school, while 513 attend Teitelman. Already, however, a handful of students are in danger of losing credits High School principal Alan Beattie is sending letters to the parents of 75 students in this situation, while several Teitelman parents will be receiving similar letters. • • • A NEW supervisor and two part-time aides have recently been appointed by the Township Committee to work in the Recreation Dept. Robert Lincoln of North Cape May has been named recreation supervisor for men’s and boy’s activities — replacing Dave Capaldi who resigned during the summer. The position carries an annual salary of $11,500 and will be effective retroactive to Sept. 14.
THE TWO part-rime aides — Lorraine Cafberly of Villas and Jan Coleman will.work 24-hour weeks at an hourly rate of $4.00. All three appointments were, replacements — no new positions erfcated.SPEAKING OF recrea
