CAPE MAY-The International Association of Travel Exhibitors (LATE) met here recently for its annual fall meeting, with David Kjolhede of theState of Iowa Tourism and Recreational Development Division presiding. Kjolhedt completed his one-year term in' office, and turned the presidency over to Donald Peck of Kentucky. Richard Longstreet, of the Cape May County Department of •Public Affairs, was named vice-president.

THE ASSOCIATION is made, up of tourism representatives from around the country. Each representative engages in the-promotionuf tourism to his ifespective area. Ope of the main vehicles used in the promotion of tourism is the travel show. One of the main topics discussed was the evaluation of previously selected shows. This survey helps in determining which shows offer the best markets in the promotion of tourism.

Nominees and winners were announced at the Chamber’s annual meeting and installation banquet Oct. 7 at the Golden Inn here. Councilman Joseph Reed accepted the plaque for North Wrldwood and City Manager Andrew Bednarek and the Sport Fishing Center Committee accepted the award for Avalon. There were 24 nominees in this years contest and ^1i nominees were presented a framed certificate in recognition of their outstanding contribution to beautification of Cape May County.

County’s Idle Funds Earn $1.3 Million

COURT HOUSE - Continuing efforts to find ways to make county government more efficient and economical, Treasurer Philip R. Matalucci. Jr., this week reported that interest on investments of idle county funds for the first nine months of 1981 exceeded $1,326,737.35. ' In announcing the .1980 total of interest earned, $1,581,877.46. Matalucci said the total interest realized on county funds invested reached $5,549,561.61 through Dep. 31, 1980 and with the amount earned so far in— 1981 the figure -'Ts $6,876,298.86. The investment program was started in 1973. BY TAKING advantage of current high interest rates on short-term investments, Matalucci said, the use of idle money provides an opportunity to'increase revenue and to reduce the tax burden on the public. Freeholder William Sturm Jr, Director of Revenue and Finance, praised Matalucci, Assistant Treasurer Warren H. Carr and the treasurer’s office for theit- handling of the county’s investment program. New Members STONE HARBOR - Five new members were accepted into the Chamber of Commerce at the recent fall dinner meeting at Hahn’s Restaurant. Proposed by Pat Fitzpatrick, membership chairman, they are: Charlotte Konopka of Island Girl; Dolores Reese Secretarial Services; Barbara Richardson of Morning Dove; Larry Hanker of Neptune Jewels and Frank Rollo, retired.

Matalucci* said that with interest at its current levels, investment of county money should produce over $1,750,000 in revenges for the current year. The grand total earned will reach over $7,300,000 by Dec. 31.
