Sideline Shots By The Old Spbrt
The Middle Twp. Panthers really got in the groove against Lower Cape May Regio'nal by beating them 31-0. ^They took advantage of every break Cape May gave them and on defense the "Orange Crush” as the defensive team is now called, proved to be a stone wall. They kept up their record of not allowing a touchdown to be scored on them. On offense Palmer rushed for 400 yds. and Tommy Gihorski for 60 yds., to pjle up the score. * The offense also unveiled a coupltt of new plays, 9 halfback pass from Jeff Toml.ln to JeffJCane and an end around with Kane carrying the ball. COACH PHIL EXLEY was happy with the way his charges performed. He says "the kids are working hard and the team is coming along." He was tery happy to win big agdinst Cape May. He feels that the teams to beat for the championship are St. Joseph’s, Buena, Ocean City, and Hammonton. Coach Gatrison of Cape May praised the middle team and said the coaching staff had done a fine job. Meanwhile the Panthers Marching Band continues 16 win awards. The latest trophy was for best in its class at Lakewood. The J.V., coached by John Kaighn and the Freshman team, coached by Art Tuel, lost close games to Lower Cape May. ‘ V ( *1
Baton Twirling Classes Readied
VILLAS - The I^wer Township Recreation Dept, will be offering an eightweek course in Baton Twirling, starting Tuesday, Oct. 27-at the Recreation Centeh here. The course will be in two 45 minute sessions. Youngsters in the first thru third grades will have class from 3 to 3:45 p.m., those in fourth thru sixth grades from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Each participant must supply his or her own t^aldn and be a resident of I/ower Township. Instructon will
be Pam Kahn. Phone registration is available 9 to 4 weekdays at 886-7880.
Hockey Call CAPE MAY - The Civic Affairs Department will conduct tryouts for the 1981-82 City Street Hockey All-Star team at Convention hall beginning at 7 tomorrow. The tryouts are open to Cape May area boys 13-16. For additional information call 834-8411 ext. 20 or 27.

Wind Blows Against Deborah Fundraiser
AVALON Deborah Hospital’s annual Walk-A-Thon, Bike A-Thon to Save A Heart was chaired by Councilwoman Jeannette Glazier. When Mrs. Glazier required surgery just prior to the event, however, Councilwoman Grace Keen stepped In to help. This is a favorite charity of hers also, and both women have activily worked for years in the sponsoring' Upper Cape May Chapter of Deborah. Cold ocean winds didn’t increase the participants, but a number of women and youngsters^ made the walk/bike . ride down Second Ave. and Dune Dr. from 110th St. in Stpne Harbor to the 21st St. Circle in Avaion and on to the Avalon Community Hall for lunch and something hot to drink. ,. CAPE MAY - The city will be initiating its Swimming and Diving Team programs this evening at the Elementary School on Lafayette St. The divers will have their • first session 6-7 p.m. and will then meet every Wednesday thereafter. Volleyball On CAPE MAY - The city Men’s and Women’s Volleyball League began last week at the Elementary School. The women’s league plays every * Wednesday and began Oct. 14. LL Election COURT HOUSE - The Middle Township Little League will hold its annual election of 1982 directors 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. The meeting will be held at the firehouse on Boyd St. Anyone interested in serving as a director for the 1982 baseball season should contact league secretary Joan Vance at 465-5505.
