His Goals In Office Outlined By Woods
OCEAN CITY - William H. Woods, Ocean City councilman and Democratic candidate for the Assembly, .today revealed some of his goals and took i*»ue with the deteriorating and low-level campaigns being conducted by a number of candidates for state political office '‘The-best way to be turned off by the political' process is to listen to some political ads and read thdm in print,*1 Woods said. “Voters are too •sophisticated today They know who has or has no! been representing them properly; that no r one political party has all the "^ood guys"; and when they are Wing takCTi tadVantage of. “Government is representih|^people—no matter, their political af filiation, age, color or income level—and tending to their needs,'' Woods said •'We’re going to have a new Governor in January so whatever Brendan Byrne did or was is past history Likewise, Ronald Reagan s national economic policies should not be a determining factor as to who serves New Jersey." Woods promised' if elected to take a nop partisan, no-nonsense, business-like approach to representing Cape May and Cumberland Counties and South Jersey. WOODS REVEALED the following goals: 1. Return of home rule and the reduction of state government growth and interference 2. Legislation affecting a specific county to be submitted to that County's Freeholder Board for input prior to release from the Legislative Committee. 3. Legislation affecting a specific area of the state to be sponsored or cosponsored by an elected
representative of that area 4. APPOINTMENTS TO State Commissions to have mandated regional representation and all appointments to these commissions to be made to ex isting state or regional residents” j 5. Mandatory .prison sentences and revocation of bail for those convicted of violent crime and crimes .committed with weapons 6 Reinstitution of, the death penalty for those con victed of pro-meditated murder and who cause the death >of elected officials and policemen 7 Streamlining and restructuring state govern ment to eliminate waste, duplfcalion 'and . unnecessary bureaucrats. *. OPPOSITION TO Ihc extension of casino gnmbl ing from^O to 24 hours and beyond the limits of Atlantic City 9. Expansions of mass transportation plus improvement an<J new construction of highways in South Jersey 10. Opposition to further confiscation of pinelands, dunes and shorefront lands without just compensation to tjhe property owner. VI. Support of a statewide workfare program where able bodied persons on welfare work for their payments 12. 'Opposition to use of casino revenue funds for, othei^ than they were originally intended: property^tax relief and reductions in rentals, telephone, gas, electric andmunicipal * utility charges for senior citizens and disabled per sons.
