Jimmy Walker, the Independent Republican candidate for Lower Township Committee, has criticized the platform of incumbent Republican Mayor Tom Clydeadate as a sham. ‘‘.flis platform is routine daily work for the township staff, other than the new (township maintenance) garage that is to be built bis way, whether you, the voters, like it or not," Walker stated in a news release issued Monday. "THIS TOWNSHIP does | ,not need full service, five days, eight hours a day, . from a mayor whose ego overrides sound judgment ' and who interfers in the other .Committee members’ departments," the independent challenger | said. As to the mayor’s plat form plgnk to continue to I push for sensible planning for the township. Mr. Walker called it "the most [ ridiculous statement he has | ever made" and'alleged that Mr. Clydesdale has missed 69 out of the last 86 meetings of the Planning Board, of which he is* a
member. "How can you push for sensible planning in the township" with such a record of absenteeism, Walker asked; responding to, his own question With, "You can’t have much input, if any." i HE ALSO TObK the mayor to task for Mr Clydesdale's platform plank to continue economy 1 on the street lighting program. "Six monkhs ago, he, with the &lp of Jim , Augustine, supposedly tagged 200 street lights to be turned off immediately, and told the audience at the' Township meeting that it would be done...And not one has been turned off yet," Mr. Walker stated. "This speaks of idle talk at our expense." According to the independent challenger, the mayor’s campaign manager, Eric Graver, and township Republican leader Maurice Catarcio are trying "to'give the people of Lower Township a snow lob on Mayor Clydesdale's accomplishments.

SEA ISLE CITY - Democratic Assembly can didate William H. Woods (First District) has called for a ringing endorsement of the Riparian Referem dum on the ballot in November. Speaking to a group of property owners bn I Hindis Ave. here, Woods said that the Republican legislators "who were supposed to have been representing Cape May and Cumberland counties in Trenton for all these years have been asleep at the switch again by not warning us that the State Department oH Environmental Protectron was taking away property rights through antiquated legal interpretations. •WIlfrY WAS IT , necessary lor the action of
the DEP to be discovered •by title insurance companies?”yasked Woods. “This is the type of protection we should be receiving from our legislators in Trenton. It’s time new people were sent up there who can do a better job of keeping an eye on the issues and protecting us." The candidate explained that the referendum rhust be passed to cut the chains inhibiting the transfer of real estate ownership in coastal areas. This can on- , dy be done with the referendum which would amend the state constitution, he said. Woods' running mate, Henry R. Ricci, and Senate candidate Edward H. Salmon supported the position.
