commented Ted O’Neill, Solid Waste Manager for the MUA. "Their comple : tion is essential to the overall success of the sourde separation program.’ 4 MUA EXECUTIVE director George Marinakis recommended the Authority award the contract, noting it was important that the work be started without delay. In its proposal. PQA set a one-year tiihe frame for completion of the three tasks. PQA will develop and implement a monitoring, system for the pilot source separation programs. The consultants will review the quantities of materials collected by the MUA and the Authority’s cost of operating % the system as well as its revenues. They - will also review the collection and handling costs and tte" level pf participation experienced by . each municipality in the 'pilot
program. AS PART OF the monitoring system, the consultants will identify any program weaknesses iq quarterly summary reports and recommend corective actions. The recycling education program will be aimed at youngsters in grades one through eight. 4n addition to preparing a curriculum, the consultants will conduct “an- in-service teacher \yorkshop at the school which is selected for the recycling pilot program. PQA will also establish that pilot program by providing the teaching materials and ' preparing taks to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching program Finally, two selected seasonal population groups will be studied so that specific source separation programs can be developed to meet the uniquejieeds of the seasonal population.
