THE KINKS SEEM TO just get better with age. Since they began in the mid-60s. The Kinks have consistently released excellent singles and albums. Their new one, Give The People What They Wont (Arista) is no exception. Ray Davies is one of the finest pop cbmposers ground. He v/rites thoughtful words, infectious melodies, and hard driving music. With a rock steady rhythm section and the dynamic guitar work of brother Dave Daviefs, this is one of the great rock and roll bands. The album is already a hit, so reviews are rather meaningless, but let me say; Give The People'What They Want is destined to be one of the best albums of '81. BESIDES LEADING THE instrumental attack of The Kinks, guitarist Dave Davies alsa has a solo career worth paying attention to. His second solo album Glamour (RCA) takes up where his excellent debut/Jeft off last year. Unlike his brother Ray, Dave Davies, writes rtiore basic rock and roll. His music is highly emotional. tybrdS don't mean as much as the overall feeling, and the overall

effect is quite mesmerizing. Fans of The Kinks have long known D&v^ Davies to be of the more inventive guitarists on the music scene, but Glamour is proof he’s a writer and vocalist with something special to say. , AFTER SOME GOOD singles and mediocre)albums, England’s Nine Nine Nine has finally coipe up with a solid ' album in Concrete (Polydor). The emphasis is on uptempo, hard driving rock. The vocals are good and the choice of material much better than befbre. Overall, Nine Nine Nine has finally proven capable of making more than singles. v 4 THOSE WHO LIsfEN TO the radio have probably heard the delightful hit by the Go Go’s, Our Lips Are Sealed. Their debut album, Beauty And The Beat (IRS/A&M) proves this all-girl group from Los Angeles has a lot more going for them than one track. Vocally, The Go Go’s are heavily in debt to‘the girl groups of the^ixties, but, musically, they’re much akin to their new wave contemporaries. The Go Go’s initial sue-, cess is just the beginning of greater things to come. Don’t' misS Uiem. - ' . * '
