Resources Agency Can ( Stand Help
RIO GRANDE - Despite government cuts in spending for^social services, Cape Human Rv»ources ifrcarrying on its job of directing federal, 'state and private resources to relie.ve the problems of needy county citizens. Its activity has been described as "ordinary people doing extraordinary things," and federal funding cutbacksmake it necessary to obtain revenues in other ways, particularly private support. Human Resources depends heavily on such support to maintain its programs for childcare, health, energy assistance, and utilization of senior citizens' talent. ITS LEADERS POINT out that these services are vital in a*cofnmunity composed of seasonal workers, traditionally lowincome jobs, and an exceptional nipber ot senior citizenfe. Hurley: Rename Arena
MILLVILLE - Legislation to change the name of the Brendan Byrne Sports Arena in the Meadowlands to "Veterans Memorial Arena' 1 has gained the support of Assembly Minroity Leader James R. Hurley, Republican candidate for State Senate in the First . District. \ Hurley . has joined the statewide petition drive collecting signatures requesting the name change which will be presented to the Legislature in November. "1 WHOLE-HEARTE-DLY agree with those who oppose the naming of this arena after Governor Byrne," Hurley said. "The high-handed C wfay the Sports Authyfityhas acted in this mattCTjhas offended Democratic and Republicansalike." In calling for the name change, Hurley noted that the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which named the arena, received a number of other suggestions for names.
••HOWEVER, THE Authority members completely .disreganied these valid suggestions, and at a closed meeting, decided toname the sports arena after the very man who had appointed each of them to their seats on the
Authority," Hurley pointed out. "To add insult to injury, the Authority kept the name a secret for 17 months until it was ready to mount the name on the arena—in, five-foot high letters," he added.
