STATE ASSEMBLY 'A»-

Vote for the full FLORIO TEAM in Cape May County
H«r»W A lawtWffl It October >1 ' * ’ - • W ' ' Stabilize Beaches—Salmon
MILLVILLE - Edward H. Salmon, former mayor, Bow a .Freeholder In Cumberland County and Candida ft for the State Senate, . Recently elaborated on his views on beach erosion and its cute ...beach stabilization. “I firmly believe and endorse the ideas of T. John Carey of Ocean City, i they are practical, (con\structive and, if adc^ted ■years ago, when first proposed, would have softened the impact of our present erosion problems,"
Salmon said.
"I HAVE LONG believed that the only practical solution to the erosion problem is a non-partisan, .multi-faceted beach stabilization effort. This should include the - homeowners of the com-., munity, qity and county officials and some interest, \hoppfully, on the state and
national levels. N
“I do not advocate state and federal spending but there is an area of state and national expertise which could be tapped to our advantage. In years past, we have been so jcplous — and suspicious — of others ; that we accomplished exactly nothing. In btm. I like the following aspects of
Mr. Carey’s proposal: Foe Assails Fox ‘Slap’
WILDWOOD -v Lt. Ralph Sheets, Democratic candidate for Sheriff, has charged Beech Fox with slapping the entire law enforcement ^confinunity in
the face.
In a recent press release, Fox claimed that being a regular police officer is not related to the functions of a county sheriff, Sheets said. Fox also said that policemen in the county have delivered prisoners to the doors of the jail and departed, and that the policeman's jail background ends there, according to Sheets. "Fox has insulted every law enforcement officer in this county by indicating that they are just glorified chauffeurs.” Sheets charged. “He has claimed he is above every policeman and chief in this county. Doesn’t Fox remember when he was just a glorified chauffeur during a stint with the State Police? Talking about khowledge and background, that doesn’t sound like much to me."
"THE INSTALLATION, on a predetermined line, of sand-o-metera. There would be precast, concrete with metal graduation markers,, imbedded for sea-level reading with plus and minus one-half foot marks. Eaclf. meter numbered and protected by law from any attempt at vandalism These to be regularly spaced at 1,000-
foot intervals.
"Establishment of a real pilot program with an automatic Assumption oh two counts: flfst, that the program be for.five years, f not one or two and, second, that any program adopted (if dredging) should be for at least two shifts a day,
preferably three.
"THE FEASIBILITY of outside financial aid could be established early on so that intelligent decisions of the local electorate might
ensue.
"That citizen volunteers be enlisted in the dune and beach grass replenishment area for a steady period of volunteer service. One has only to look at the 9th st. beach in Ocean City ... remember what it used to be like ... and you will see a vivid picture of beach erosion, 1961, at its worst. There are many such beaches and they are shrinking, not growing, in Ocean City,” he said.
Anti-Noise Credit Giveii^
SEA ISLE CITY - Former City Commissioner John Scarpa today issued a statement regarding last summer's highly successful "anti-noise" squad in the resort "Recent published reports have given me credit for starting this squad of city police,” Scarpa said. "I wish I had been the one responsible, but as interim-commissioner, all I did was to see that the plans of Mayor Dom Raffa and Commissioner Bill. Kehner were carried out, and that sufficient funds were in the 1961 budget. "The idea and plans for the anti-noise squad came as a result of last fall’as Town Meeting. Mayor Raffa and Commissioner Kehner came up with the idea as a way of solving some of the problems we face each summer here in Sea Isle City,” Scarpa said.
