WEEK BEFORE last on Friday, John Fisher. Rod Walton, Bill Halbruner, Bucky llalbrnner and Lak£ C'ordner left on the 7:30 ferfy for their ride to the Outer Banks. Then on Saturday ^ . John Manganarao. On that same ferry we fiiet Larry Beradelli and his wife from the WMdwoods, who were
heading West for Arizona. On our Journey southward, we met Carl Linger from Wilmington at Twin Towers in Pocomoke, and with Carl 1 following us, our group was complete. When we arrived in Hatteras the whole gang was waiting for us at the Atlantic View. Thdy helped us unpack our trailer and get tucked away in the "bridal suite" where Andy Trace, our Den father, started getting the ■coffee ready. ON SUNDAY when , we got up the wind was blowing NW and Gamaliel Hallance of Hatteras said, as we visited his brother
Wheeler’s Gulf station, "I knew you Jersey boys were cdming, because this'fnorning they started putting up the small craft warning nags." I went to church, and had dinner at Cpt. Ernal Foster’s house, while Andy, Carl, and Luke went over to Ocracoke sightseeing, and John Fisher, Bill, Bucky, and Rod fished the North Beach. They caught one flounder, and one medium sized blue. AT CAPE POINT they were having a drum run which we didn’t know about, and Joe MacGreggor "Hook,” and Charlie

On Monday everybody spread out to the four winds again, and John Manganarao and I headed for Ocracoke to try to get out on the shoals. We couldn't find any charter boats available, but on the other side of Silver Lake we ran into the well known Ocracoke sounds guide Dave Nagel, arf^l he told us he’d take us out to the big bar in Ocracoke Inlet, and fish with us for puppy drum. This amounted to a totally new fishing experience for John and I. WE DONNED all our , beach gear, and Dave deposited on the leeward side of the big shoal where he’d gotten 34 puppy drum the night before. each had two good sized spottails, and a memorable fishing trip. I also caught a big wave standing in the knee deep water, which filled my waders but it was worth it — and Dave Nagel is a super beach & shoals guide. The wind got stronger Tuesday, and.everyone just roamed around trying to fish. John Manganarao and I roamed dround Hatteras, and visited Gamaliel Ballance’s new launching ramp, and spent most of the morning with me and Duffy Sch«nke, an old friend who married Scottio Gibson's daughter Shlela and moved to Wisconsin. -Duffy is spending a month in Hatteras at Nettie Gibson's, so a lot of drum scales were on .the floor when we broke up at noon, .then John and I went over to Ocracoke and tried the beach, but pothing was do-
