Two girls had singularly appealing and almost identical voices. Beth Jones and Pam Meadowcroft. ONCE IN AWHILE we hear something particularly heart warming, we first met Alice & Tom Marvel of 261-47th St. Avalon, about 1950 when they started vacationing on this island regularly. A lot of water has sped over the shirigle since then and many of us remember the good old days when the adult gathering spot was the Sportman's. Tavern (now Phillip's Rock 'n Chair). Since the dayd when we competed frequently at shufflcboard the. Marvels have had three children: Tom Jr. who was so small at birth he was immediately dubbed Tiny Tim and has been called Tim ever since; David thmf Second son is now 45 and) Alice Jr. is 36. They all\grew up thinking of Avalon as their

best dressed "hoboes''. The wjnner was Marcelle deLaurentis. with Cary and Jane Boss second and Gene Fish6r third.

second home. * IT ISN'T too surprising that when Tom decided^o retire as a Vice Pres, of Phila. Savings Fund, the Marvels moved from Lansdale to Avalon permanently. This summer the grown offspring asked their parents what they'd like as a 50th Wedding Anhiversity present? The answer was unanimous "We’d like to reaffirm our vows." The younger generation took over from there and managed every detail of a secpnd jedding, even to a facsimile invitation of the first. On Saturday, Sept: 26 at noon, 50 years later to the day and hour. Alice and Tom took their wedding vows for the second time at the First Methodist Church in Avalon with the Rev. Robert Scott presiding. The other principals were the same: Ester Minich Orr of Central Valley. Pa. was matron of honor and W. Ilartzell lladdem of Pitman, was bestman. 150 GUESTS attended the

service and the reception which followed at the Wildwood Golf Club. The occasion was* a beautiful and sentimental affair. Alice, who always looks lovely wore a dusty pink multi-pleated gown, and Tom was his most impressive in a midnight blue suit brightened by a blue and greeastriped tie with a mini-stripe of gold for the festive touch. After the reception the couple left for Germantown, Montgomery Co., Maryland for the weekend then went on for two weeks in Fla. THEY MADE Avalon their permanent residence in 1974 and they are such an asset to the community. Among many other . activities: Alice is President of the Avalon's Women's Civic Club, former president of the Stone HarborAvalon Women's Auxiliary of Burdette-Tbmlin Hospital, and a leader 1n the Republican Club. Tom has served as truslet^T treas. and pres, of the Avalon Home and .Landowners Assn, and continues on as a trustee; he’s former treas. and presently chairman of the Finance Committee of the First Methodist Church. If you wonder what tljey do with all their spare lime, they're avid bridge players, involved in local fmlilics, attend most Boro Council meetings, and manage a too-active Social life. Like everybody else, we think they're MARVELous
