Fiflhing Jhi* week can be compared in ft way to Ihe economy of Ihe nation, at least off Cape May County, that is it s depressed and unpredicable And with the addition of many windy days, it's hiTh downriftht my ' . I can usually gam a little advantage with my deddhne being at Ihe end of the'week, because I get a viewpoint of: what other writers are reporting on. and I can then find oui any areas I might have missed . This week however the only good report came from up around Atlantic City way. and I can't really tell how ■ new those catches are • TIIK WHJTKKS up there are saying' that there are spotty schools of big hides and nice weakfish not too .far, offshore, •and' that nrigleft are making good catches rasling, lures at these fish 1 know Kve've had Some action offshore |ike lhal. but there are so ..few boats fishing ithard’ . to get a handle on those cat •ches A lot of fellnlvs arcgetting ready to store Jheir" floats for the winter, and get ready for next season . ohe good datch could change a lot of that think ■ me. but it is gctjing late in the season (nr Ihui to hap- . (ieorgr Dawson of Court House was telling me about going out with a friend to . the Sea Isle Lumps, and on the way out fHey caught, a 15 lb slammer blue and lost another one His friend was making one last trip before storing his bobt for ’the winter It's a changeover time. IT ‘COULD GET better though if some big blues or some nice size stripers should start taking hold inside McCrics Shoal or down .id the Rips There are still a few of our real hardy

caught a 19 lb blue in the surf. That’s a mighty fine fish to catch in the suds I HATE TO write a negative column like this, but if I tried to play up

fishing does get hot. you can always grab one. and get out there. Reels par Ocularly need to be in a warm room instead of on a boat or in your garage. In

we all have to realize that it isgctting'tcrward the end of Novcmhef. and that there just might he some good fishing left, but the weather ' conditions have to improve if we re going to get more good fistiing in 1981. It’s a Pood time to take those good rods and reels down, and ITiok 'em over; and do a little preventative maintenance on them. If

there, so none of the docks are thickly populated. • Things will get pretty quiet . from here on in. The tackle shops. close early when they're open, and you have to plan in advance for bait. ONE PIECE of news, came this week that made me feel very sad Jim Rechtold of Cape May Court House passed away, and although he. wasn't associated with the fishing world I hod many pleasant moments with this man. and he liked to hear my fishing tales. Jim was a master pianist, and through the '50s and '60s he played at all our Kiwanis minstrels. He had a lot of patience, and one year he 1 worked with me for thfree months just to help me do a solo called Nobody. R was a lot ofiuir, but it didn't bring any talent scouts to my door, so I’m still writing fishing columns. He kept a lot of people happy with his. . piano, and he was a truefriend (the three months » proved that). It's not easy to lose a compatriot.like this, as he was part of my adult life -in Cape May Court House when we had Ume fo enjoy thelhings life is all about. I’ll miss you.

Jim. but I think God that you were part of my life. NOW. LET’S count our blessings. Thanksgiving is coming and ' then Christmas, .and they arc beautiful times of the year. Tomorrow's sun will risfc. and there will be many fine moments coming up; and before we know it it will be Spring again, and a new seashn of angling. Let's all look for the rpany pluses we have hfcre in our Cape n/ Nature. 8400,000 in Interest AVALON - The boroufch administration reports that for the first three quarters of 1981. the municipality has earned over $400;opo in interest.^ According to Andrew Bednarek, borough administfetor, “We have paid close attention to our cur* rent accounts in order to obtain the highest interest rate possible.
