TRENTON - Nt?w Jeisey bqw hunters set a new record for the number of deer Jakep during the 1981 fall bow season Preliminary figures released by theJJivision of Fish, Game afld Wildlife show that a totjl'of 5,420 deer were taken this, year during the season which ran from Sept. 26 through Nov 5. This compared to • the 4,853 deer taken by bow hunters in 1980, and it represents an increase of 567 deer, or a percentage increase of 12 percent., THE NUMBER OF deef taken during the fall bow season was up in nearly all of the mpst productive counties, with the exception of Cumberland County, where 160 deer were taken this year as compared with ■■212 in 1980. Cape May County arqhers bagged 49, against 39 last year. THE DIVISION said that the prospects are bright for an excellent shotgun season which opens Dec. 7 and continues through Dec. 12 The fact that a Dumber of large deer were taken during the fall bow season indicates that thero.will be a lot of antlered de<;r in the woods for the coming season.
