An Artist on Artists

CAPEJMAY —Nicholas Solovroff of this comtiunity, whose wafercolofs of Cape May scenes w^re recently exhibited at the County Art League on the Physick Estate here, will* ^ present the third program in the League's series at the Carriage House Gallfery on the estate, 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 3

His topic will be Painters 'of Places and Solovioff's slide-illustrated program will be about the painter as tour guide ^whose depictions df Ipcales in this country and around the world’ have bften amounted to a minor industry. English printers for example, #ho took the “grand tour" of Europe, often brought back views of ancient and modem Rome. He will also discuss the. painters of. the Hudson River School and the painters of the American West, as well as the locales depicted by the “Ashcan School” of painters. Solovioff has chosen his subject because, as a painter of Cape May, he feels that its individual look might well have fostered its own painters' school. THE SPEAKER has a master's, degree in Fine Arts from Harvard University. where he began his studies in astronomy, physics and mathematics, later switching to art history. He has taught at Harvard’s Fogg Museum and at the Parsons .School of Design in New York He has done covers for^Fprtune Magazine arid 'illustrated various periodicals such as the Smithsonian and Time-Life Bdoks. Solovioff has been a combat artist in Vietnam, covered the Apollo Space program at Cape Kennedy, and documented the development of the World Trade Center in New York in illustrations.
