JUST '(JOT a postal from Dr. Bob Junl who has lived in Stone Harbor for years tmt has only recently made it his permanent home. He’s been out in Baja, Calif, visiting one of his two nephews While he was away 'we had our savage storm and Bob’s precious boat broke l^osc from its mooring behind their home on 83rd St. Fortunately, Bob’s wife Elaine saw. it happening and called Rich (Whlteyl Applegate at his Island Outboard Service and .swears Whitey was theep within four minutes to save the day. Whitey worked for DesChpmps before it was sold and now is in business • for himself SAW BETTY Ramsay this week for the first time since she had eye surgery at Lankenau Hospital She looks rparvefous and says it was a cinch. She gives full credit to her surgebn Dr. Llchenstein who is on the staff of Lankcnau and Wills Eye as wejl. She’ll have to have the operation on the other eye later but says she has no apprehension at all now. JANE & C AREY Bois of 84th St. teamed up with Ruth and (iene Fisher of 10117 Corinthian Dr. to give a smashing dinner party at the Fisher’s home last week Their house might have been designed to give parties No traffic jams, perfect flow and loads of room for dancing. The food was sumptious and we must' ask Jane for the recipe for hot crab canapes If she’s' smart she’ll keep it a secret. Had a long talk with .Gene Westhoff who recently congratulated Jim Ow-

ing* for adding five and a lurif more pages to the Chamber of Commerce booklet for next year. Both Al and Gene deserve a great deal of credit for the amount of time they spend getting advertizers' and compiling this indispensable small volume of in-

formation.

Hostess Ruth Fisher who was wearing that almost unwavering beautiful smile of.hers and a muljfi-pleated gray crepe pants hostess outfit told us the vegetable casserole captained no zucchini (our favorite Italian vegetable) but it was delicious and we J vd got to get the recipe for that ono too. ^ EVERYONE WE know ha's boon taking trips, either sightseeing or just to visit friends or family and this writer finally convinced her spouse if was tirhe to check up on (he children and grandchildren. 1000 miles of riding is just too much for our old bones. ON OUR WAY lip we Stopped at the Wellsboi*o Hotel which is a quiet, oldfashioned spot with very good grub and famed locally •for Ms generous smorgasbord It’s just a short drive to the canyon which is well worth seeing. On our trip to the Poeonos we stopped at the Greenhouse at Fernwood; which offers a complete^ different ambience Adjoining the magnifi’dbntly Edwardidn Gaslight ftoom is the Aslor Hoorn, aballroom which Maitre de Fran Russo showed us by request. Its a gojden room in-decoration crowned by the original world famous Astor Hotel crystal cjiandeliers. TVE DRIFTED back 50 years in lime.and could

plainly remember dancing with Jimmy Durante (who ’ lived (here, for years). It was probably one of the biggest moments in this writer’s life — but. old age has grabbed us. and- we can’t remember the name of the famous orchestra which always played there. We think it vvas Vincent Lopez or Meyer Davis, but it’s driving us nuts! , The Greenhouse offers many other enticements, among them: and 18 hole PGA golf course with a 19 holder for duffers; tennis 1 courts both ipdoor and out. stables, a ski area with, a snow maker in case - the wealer goes wrong, senior citizens', package, adjacent Winona Fallas Family. Theme Park, teen center and 13 nearby factor outlets. If sophistication plus mountain air is your bag, this complex is for you There is not one age group they haven't catered to. and you can go cither American ofr European plan. Messenger and Steve Carbon! were all on Chief Foley’s Little League Team years ago and all remember him with affection. . IF YOU occasionally want a change of locals without too much travel involved try the Corbin. House, in Corbin City near Tuckahoe on Hie. 50. It had been highly recommended ‘ to us by George -Tatem of , CMCH who's a real gourmet, and by Joan and Dave Krumbiiaar who. have nevjer steered us wrong . * Unfortunately we chose a Saturday night to go Reservations are requested mil we found il operates plainly on A first- * Tome first-served basis fl s an enormously popular spot (deservedly so) hut avoid Saturdays if possible They also serve luncheons Yhe Inn is historically situated in an area which once was the site of shipbuilding. glassworks and ironworks.. After that it became^ a railroad town, when in 1804 the Phlla. and Seashore Railroad- began daily excursions between Pbila. and Cape May County resorts. ‘ CORBIN ifoUSK itself . has q warm, relaxed atmosphere of earl# America The staff ft cordial. atlentftc and efticient; the detfbr is attractive and the drinks expertly made The food on the cjC ‘Tensive )*menu was delicious.
