firmative Action Plan for 'county government. a Freeholder Director Anthony T. Cataooso sta ted that the douhfy does have . an Affirmative Action Plan, as do many of ; its agencies and commissions. All contract bidding on county projects te required to comply with the requirements of the Equal Employment Act and Affirmative Action, and all county personhel hiring and promotions policies comply with the - NewJersey Civil Service Rules and Regulations, which prevent discrimination in public employment. In addition, the County Purchasing Department actively solicits business from minority vendors when they are available. CATANOSO SAID that anyone who has experienced any discrimination by county government or any of its agencies should call it to the attention of the Freeholders and he promised- that the matter would be- thoroughly in- . vestigated. Mr. Catanoso said county government is non-biased and that Cape May Couhty has been in the forefront of hiring and promoting . women and minorities long before federal law ! requried i "It is unfortunate that an ' out-of-county , resident ' would come to Cape May County and make such inflamatory remarks without first checking out the facts," the freeholder director said in a news i release.

under control.

THE SOUTH JERSEY lawmaker said he was especially pleased by the support given to the Cape May beach restoration project. This project is designed to repair damage caused to the beaches of the resort by the federal government's construction of the Cold Spring^tties. 'Hie Cape May project was not included in the administration’s budget package, or in the original appropriations bills passed by the House and Senate

earlier this year. However, Hughes persuaded the - House and Senate conferees to add special language to the compromise Energy and Water Resources appropriations bill,,which dlfects the Army Corps ,bf Engineers to continue planning and •.engineering work on" the project next year. r Specifically, the bill aiHhorizcs $175,000 for the Cape May Inlet to Lower Township project, which is the maximum amount • needed by the Army Corps, to complete the advanced engineering and design work. "Approval of these funds means we'll stay right on schedule for a 1983 construction start,;’ Hughes stated. “We won’t have to skip a year, as originally seemed likely."
