ERMA — Local tennis enthusiasts will have to wait before' additional courts for school and public use become available at the Lower Cape May Regional High School. And it's still not a certainty they'll be built. The local school board was expected to receive bids for the construction of four new 120 x 120 ft. hard surfaced courts at its November 19 meeting,- but the need to f revise specifications for the project has delated the Bidding process until the board's- next regufar meeting on Dec. 17. ACCORDING TO school • Officials, no bids were received prior to last week’s meeting. The revised 'specs will clarify the amount of gravel needed and the amount of topsoil that must be moved from the site — two areas not specified in the first specifications forwarded to potential bidders. Superintendent Ephraim Keller said Nov. 20 that the confusion in the first set of 'specificatlonfej would possibly have-resulted in sothe bids coming in too low for the biffder to construct the eowlV as required, while other bids would be far t<^p high. Hcj. added that the Board decid i ed to revise the bids and' rebid the project so that the best courts for the best price can be constructed. BUT ALTHOUGH the board has authorized bids for the project — which Would be funded by some of
the $43,000 available in capital outlay — no definite decision has been made tq go ahead and build the courts. The need for additional tennis facilities has been considered by the board for several years. According to board member Freeman Douglass, the cost to build the four courts will pnv bably be between $37,000 and $38,000 — a price substantially less than the bids received in 1975. As proposed, two of the new courts will be built at- the \high school and two at the adjacent Teitelman School.
BOARD MEMBER Stephen Todd noted last week that he could like to have a list of other projects for which the funds could be used. "There may be other priorities,” he said.

Superintendent Keller acknowledged at the board’s September' meeting that there are two other projects for.which the funds have been requested — repair and surfacing of existing school parking lots and roadways, and the con-, i struction of a soundproof studio for class video productions. CAPITAL OUTLAY * funds are specifically designated to be used for the improvement of school grounds ancr buildings. To , be used irf'other ways. voLer approval must be ob- . tained. Currently, there are only two courts available at the high school' — an inadequate number to provide for later-scholastic tennis matches and for alf students choosing tennis as an elective physical education class. *
