THIS WEEK’S COLUMN WILL AGAIN focus on Christmas gift ideas. Currently receiving a lot of airplay on just about every radio statiob is the solo album by Fleetwood Mac 1 * vocalist Stevie Nicks. Bella' Donna (Modem) should please any Fleetwood Mac fan. as Stevie Writes and sings in the same style as she does with her
group.
The.t'uoes are very melodic and her dreamy voice might be tiresome to non-fans, but her fanatics can’t get enough. Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna is going to be one of the biggest
sellers of the Christmas season.
AC/DC. FANS WILL CERTAINLY appreciate the heavy metal band Rose Tattoo. Assault A Battery (Mirage) is definitely-in.tkfeJraditlon of AC/DC with heavy guitar solosapd rough and ready vocals. Rose Tattoo might lack originality, but their power and- conviction more than
makes up for that onO drawback:
Was (Not Was) hak just released an exciting debut
album that could win over believers from followers of different musical genres. The basic sound of Was (Not Was) is soulful funk, but the group also shows traces of jazz, hard driving rock, and an absurd sense of humor (not unlike Frank Zappa). It takes several spins to realize what’s going on here, but Was (Not Was) is a band worth checking out. Their album is on Island Records. THOSE WHO LIKE ELECTRONIC MUSIC will be pleased to know there’s a new album by Tangerine Dream. Exit (Elektra) is full of complex, yet melodic electronic music that would perfectly fit as a soundtrack to a film — their music is always expressive. This is music for an acquired taste, but Tangerine Dream are leaders in their field. The Manhattans have always issued classic soul mUsic, but follow Your Heart (Solid Smoke, P.O. Box 22372, San Francisco, CA. 94122) makes available some extremely rare-songs. This is a wonderful reissue. The songs are perfect, with rich, emotional melodies sung in expressive voices. The harmonies of The Manhattans would be hard to top. Add to that a great cover with vintage photos and informative liner notes, and this is a present few would resent getting. ■ ■ ■ - *
