The meeting is open to the public and a large turnout wouldn't be unexpected. ACCORDING TO DISTRICT superintendent Ephraim Keller, there^is a

real problem. “We’re short of people who want to coach." It is a problem facing other high school districts in the county and throughout the state — to the extent that last month the state Board of Education declared a one year coaching shortage emergency which would' permit schools to hire individuals with only two years of college as coaches. Districts are having difficult^. hiring coaches, especially fot junior varsity, freshmen and women’s teams. The N. J. Education Assn, has blasted the state board policy, contending it’s a step toward replacing academic teachers wittn lower paid, less qualified instructors. The coaching problem has come about because teachers reportedly are declining lower paid coaching assignments for better-paying after-school jobs. rently involved in high school coaching. The Regional district also has a teacher from the Lower Township Elementary ’ Schools district coaching a high school sport. THE PROPOSED POLICY came about because of time differences

in the ending of the school day at the high school and Junior high — the coaches from the Teitelman school having to leave classes early for tome high school away matches. At tonight's meeting, Transportation Committee members are also schedul-

ed to go over proposals to put current state statues and district practices into formal polity — one involving dfily maintenance inspection of school buses; the other concerning the distances transported students live, from the school. »
