COURT HOUSE - Charles M. Leusner, Democratic Candidate for Middle Township Committee, has announced his opposition to the consolidation of the Middle and Lower Township Dept. — echoing the sentiments of the township’s public safe-

ty director.

Leusner’s main concern is that consolidation would create an "imbalance of manpower in the summer months which would most likely benefit Lower Township. I can not believe that Middle Township would benefit in any way through consolidation especially during the summer months," he said. "WE HAVE three taverns in Middle and over a doten in Lower," he continued in a press release. “Common sense tells us that our Police Officers will be spending more time in

would be created that will cause unfair competition in promotions, patrol assignments, and equipment distribution. He also pointed to Township Committeeman and Director of Public Safety Michael J. Voll’s op-, position to the plan. "I CAN NOT support tW idea of consolidation since the implementation would create an unequal distribu-

tion of manpower in favor of Lower Township at the expense of Middle Township taxpayers," Vollwas quoted as saying. Leusner said his opinion on consolidation in no way alters the .Mutual Aid Agreement between Lower and Middle townships which provides for back-up' units for A neighboring community when an officer is in distress.

Township problems than they will be in Middle on routine patrol or solving our problems. It is not fair for our taxpayers to subsidize Lower Township.” Leusner also opined that Middle citizens would lose personal contact with officers and espirit de corps within the total department could suffer if the plan goes

through.

"MANY OF OUR peopleknow our officers on a first name basis and that builds community goodwill, Mr. Leusner maintained. "Having a Lower Township officer answer a Middle Township call will forfeit that community spirit. Moreover, the morale of our department might suffer because a new entity
